313 dropping connection

Hey everyone, new guy on the forums. Finally found a board for the 313, this is probably the only one existing? smile

I just bought a 313 a couple of days ago, in which I installed an 500gb Seagate Barracuda (ST3500630AS). It works very well, except for a small problem. Every once in a while the device drops the connection for about 30-60 seconds. Doesen't matter if I'm in the configration panel, uploading files or downloading them, either as a mapped drive or through FTP. It just suddenly stops responding for a little while, and goes back up again by itself in a little while.

This is very annoying when transfering bigger files, as it will cancel the transfer. I read somewhere that someone had similar problems with the 323. Is this a common problem? Is it fixable, or should I take it back where I bought it?

Re: 313 dropping connection

Hi

I have the same problem, droping connection after a few minutes
at least when I use the windows explorer (drag and drop)

I figured out that transferring files with a ftp-client works better. I use ws-ftp Pro and specially the synchronize option.

At the moment I transfer about 6000 photos from a computer with XP to the dns-313 with Ws-ftp Pro. In the transfer manager I see that sometimes all transferrings stops for a few seconds. There are also errors such as 'can' t change the directory , no such file or directory'

Sometimes the ftp-session stops the dns-313 does not react anymore on my ftp-client. In such a case I can explore the dns-313 with XP. Only powering down the dns-313 and of course powering up wil help to connect with my ftp-client again.

Using robocopy also generates errors, after a few minutes copying I get messages such as: ' the network cannot be found' .

It has mentioned before, this device is VERY slow.

But I say it also should also work when using the windows explorer !

Re: 313 dropping connection

Hi,
I have a DNS-313 and can confirm it drops connection during a large copy. I am also using a Seagate Barracuda 500GB disk. It does seem to be quite slow even copying to a computer wired to the LAN with a Gigabit interface.
I have tried to FTP into it with CuteFTP with the user name admin. This fails with the message 'Host actively refused the attempt to connect to it'. What parameters work with Wsftp Pro ??

Re: 313 dropping connection

I also have that problem. Strange thing since first couple of weeks it worked whithout problems. I guess if it has anything to do with heat or a degrading hard drive...

Whe I copy and about 700 MB file from PC to NAS sometimes it works fine - yet slow, about 10 MB/s - but other times it freezes for a while and then slows down to 0.6 or 0.7 MB/s.

By the way, the problem with FTP is probably that you don't have de FTP server up and running. To activate it you must go to the administration web page of your NAS.
