DNS-313 installation problems

The DNS-313 do not work. When connected to my router it is recognised and the DNS-313 recieves an IP number. When I run the Installation program (clicknconnect on my network computer the programs stall when it tries to establish connection to the DNS-313. When I run the 'easy search utility' program (on the installation cd) it cannot find the DNS-313.
I have tried it with other routers and the problem is the same. I have also tried with another DNS-313 without luck.
During operation the harddisk sign (Drive LED) on the DNS-313 is solid green (according to the manual it means (1) that the harddisk has 5% or less capacity left or (2) that the systemfile cannot be read, I believe it is (2)).
The harddisk I have installed (Samsung sp2504c, 250GB) have earlier been used for other purposes (with NT-file system) and I suspect that is the problem? I have deleted the file system/partition with the WIn XP Computer Management over USB but the problem remains.
Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Do I need a program that can erase the harddisk/file system completely? Could I somehow flash the systemfile to the harddisk over USB and thereby make the ClickNConnet unnecessary?

Best regards

Re: DNS-313 installation problems

Hi

I had almost the same, and I figured out that it only works when using the subnet 192.168.0.x

Re: DNS-313 installation problems

Hi Granaet,
thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention this in my first post, but I have allready fixed the subnet in my router to 192.168.0.x and assigned the DNS-313 to 192.168.0.32.

Best regards

Anders

Re: DNS-313 installation problems

I had the same problem. I tried all possible and impossible and got it working only by connecting PC directly to DNS-313 with normal LAN cable. I know it sounds weird that it wasn't a cross connection cable but it worked.

Re: DNS-313 installation problems

Hi tuju,
I have had a long correspondence with Dlink technical support, we tried virtually everything, but it did not work. The whole time I suspected that the problem could be related to the harddisk. This week I bougth a new one (HD Western Digital WD Caviar SE WD2500AAJS) which has been tested by D-link to be working with the DNS-313, and now it works very well. I suspect that your harddisk may not work with the DNS-313.

Best regards

Anders Bentien

PS. With the old harddisk the USB-mode (external harddisk mode) of DNS-313 actually worked fine. I could acces it and transfer files etc. This was initially the reason why I believed that the problems could not be related to the harddisk.

HP PSC 1410 printer (not yet functional)
Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ 4x500GB

Re: DNS-313 installation problems

The "solid green light" happend to me to after formatting my samsung 500gb-disk. It worked fine in the 313 when it was new, but I kind of messed it all up when I tried to install debian and some other stuff on it (mostly depending of my lack of linux skill). I removed all patitions in XP's disk manager to start over, then the green light appeard when connecting it to the network. It worked with the USB though.

Anyway... I solved the problem by connect it to a Mac and erase the disk from there to some standard OSX file system, which "failed"... when put it back to my windows computer the disk manager wanted to "initialize" the disk before I could create partitions on it. In that state I put it back and it worked to run the install CD and start over again.
