samba 3.0.28a

Since i had some problems with the samba version 3.0.25a installed by default on the dns 313 i replaced it with the current version 3.0.28a which was somewhat better.
The rather bad throughput is unchanged as is the high cpu usage when transferring data to the dns 313 so if these two are your only problems don't upgrade.

Installation instructions:

Download package from Samba 3.0.28a
Unpack the package in /mnt/HD_a2

Start samba with the following commands:

Code:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/mnt/HD_a2/usr/lib:/lib
/mnt/HD_a2/usr/sbin/smbd -D --sbindir=/mnt/HD_a2/usr/sbin --bindir=/mnt/HD_a2/usr/bin --swatdir=/mnt/HD_a2/usr/local/swat \
-s /etc/samba/smb.conf --libdir=/mnt/HD_a2/usr/lib --lockdir=/var/lock --piddir=/var/lock \
--smb-passwd-file=/etc/samba/smbpasswd --private-dir=/tmp/samba/
/mnt/HD_a2/usr/sbin/nmbd -D -s /etc/samba/smb.conf

Re: samba 3.0.28a

I had the problem that the dns processes were killed/dying under heavy load of samba in combination with changing the filesystem to ext2. After upgrading these problems vanished, as well as the connection losses during larger transfers. Right now i am quite happy with my dns running stable and smooth but of course the next firmware upgrade may cause some issues.
Can't help you with many files apart from "Move them into sub directories" smile

Re: samba 3.0.28a

Is this version compiled only for 313?
I've tried to use with my 323 but it seems not to work.

I always received error of this kind:"file not found"
Even if the files are there, I try to call it with full path as in your example or with ./ in the dir, but nothing.
All the files are at the right place.

Any clue?

BTW. I would try it because I have problem of heavy cpu load with actual version of samba. (3.0.24)

Re: samba 3.0.28a

This version of samba is compiled for an arm920t cpu, so it's not usable with the dns 323...it wouldn't change the high cpu load anyway though, i am experiencing this myself.
Maybe fonz will be so kind to put the current samba version into fun plug.

Re: samba 3.0.28a

Getting to this a bit late in the game, but surely that is the wrong location to put smbd, unless I am running FunPlug and all the locations have changed. I see smbd currently in /mnt/sda3/usr/bin

Anyone still on this site that can reply to this.
Thanks.

Re: samba 3.0.28a

/mnt/sda3 content is deleted and recreated each time the device boots ... so the right location is I think, anywhere else ;-)

Maybe naaffarin is talking about /mnt/HD_a2 because he switched /mnt/HD_a2 and /mnt/HD_a4, in order to use an ext2 partition to store it's files: cf. Howto change main partition to ext2

So I guess the /mnt/HD_a2 mounting point he is talking about is pointing to the ext2 partition /dev/sda4

Anyway, the only solution for you to have "customs applications" launched at start-up (including this samba version) is (I think) to install Fun_plug
