Re: Could I use Ata over Ethernet in my DNS-313??????

do you mean target (server) or client?

AoE kernel module compiled succesfully, so i'll try it in the evening

edit:
client compilation also without errors, so we'll see...

I don´t know where but I remember that there are a windows driver for ata AoE.

Just when I know where is it, I´ll tell you somethings.

Hi,

As per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATA_over_Ethernet there are AoE drivers for Windows. Also in Vista there is iSCSI support.
So what you're up to :-)

Re: Could I use Ata over Ethernet in my DNS-313??????

Did you manage to get AoE working?
I would be interested in using that method  for storing backups with the dns-323 as server.

Does the kernel module work?
Were you able to compile the vblade package without issues?
Does it work?
Would this work on a recompiled version of the standard 2.6.12.6 kernel plus a vblade funpkg? (which I would obviously have to make)

Ideally, I would like to repartition the hard-drive to create a new partition that I would use exclusively for AoE while keeping sda2/sdb2 for use by the dns-323 as HD_a2.
Would this work? or would the dns-323 barf try to always reformat the "extra" partition?

Re: Could I use Ata over Ethernet in my DNS-313??????

i've managed to compile the AoE enabled kernel - the module loads on. but i wasn't able to make it work. the aoeutils package can also be crosscompiled without any problems
vblade compiled by me loads and responds for the commands

i did't do more experiments, as i have little time due to school. but if you are a bit experienced with linux, i can answer any build-related questions you have.

kernel i am using is 2.6.15 from latest storlink GPL package

Re: Could I use Ata over Ethernet in my DNS-313??????

Maybe a simpler option is to use the vblade optware package. There are instructions on the wiki for installing ipkg for optware packages (http://dns323.kood.org/howto:optware) and there is a vblade package (vblade_19-1_arm.ipk) complied at this link http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa … /unstable/ vblade is a userspace daemon that is part of the aoetools package so I think you should not need a AoE enabled kernel.
