ffp smartmon question with dlink beta 1.03.66 fw

is anyone else using 1.03.66 and ffp and the ffp smartd configured? if not, is there any reason to do so?

i'm just using the dlink provided smart right now to test, and am wondering if these two will step on each other? i don't have the ffp smartd enabled, but it's running:

What do you mean, "it's running"? The lines just say that the disks support the smart interface.

Re: ffp smartmon question with dlink beta 1.03.66 fw

i mean the package is clearly installed and somewhat functional as it responds to queries.

i would assume (perhaps incorrectly) that if dlink didn't include it and i didn't enable it via ffp that it's not there right?

Re: ffp smartmon question with dlink beta 1.03.66 fw

there's no need to 'enable' programs. if it's installed, you can run it.

I think you're confusing smartmon with smartd. like telnetd, sshd, and syslogd (so called daemons, that's why their names end in ..d), smartd keeps running in the background. smartmon just queries disk information and exits.
and for smartd, there's a start script that you can enable, but not for smartmon.

you are correct, i was confusing those two things.

is there any way to configure the dlink provided smartd program like i can the ffp smartd?

Of course, just follow the documentation: http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/doc.html
However, on my dns343, there's no firmware smartd, only smartctl
