Install VLC or ffmpeg on DNS-313

Hi all,

I currently use my NAS for streaming videos to my PS3, through Mediatomb for upnp server.

Unfortunately, standard installation of mediatomb does not encode ISO files to stream them to the PS3, but it can be done using specific configuration (see http://www.vanalboom.org/node/10, http://www.vanalboom.org/node/9 or http://psyklops.blogspot.com/2009/01/me … coder.html if you are curious).

I was wondering if it is possible to install these kinds of software on the nas.

Does anyone has a hint for it ?

Thanks

David

Re: Install VLC or ffmpeg on DNS-313

To encode or transcode videos you would need a cpu like today's stationary computers have. The arm processor in this cute little thing simply wont do it unless you could wait a few months for an encoding to complete.

DNS-323 - Excellent in many cases.
DNS-313 - Love it, but hate that D-link only prior the DNS-323 development.
DSM-G600 - Noisy, slow, unstable and ugly. I simply hate it so far.
