Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

cleanboot.sh
Is it necessary to install cleanboot for DNS-320 with 2.0 v firmware?
I read that it works for DNS-323 but there is EXT2 partitions used. DNS-320 is using ext3.
Maybe it is stupid question - please correct me if I am wrong

I'm having a bit of a problem with slow writing to my DNS 320. I didn't play with it much before putting fun_plug 0.5 on it, but it seemed OK. I'm trying to update all the packages and eventually get Squeezebox Server installed.
The output of dmesg shows many lines of "bad rx status 2f8xxxxx, (crc error)". What does this mean? I take it it's a network issue rather than a problem with my drives (I have 2x 1TB Samsung HD103SJ in Standard config).
I've tried different cables etc. What else can I try to troubleshoot it?
Offline
Update: There seems to be no problem when I connect direct to my laptop (bypassing my Dynalink RTA1025W) so does that point to a problem with my modem/router? Could it be an MTU thing (modem is set to 1500)?
Is it actually something I need to worry about? I feel like it's impacting on performance. Given that PC -> DNS-320 works OK (or seems to, I should test this more, but there's not that much I can do connected only to my PC) I feel like I should do something about this.

Looks like your Laptop has a problem with the network? So try to connect it wirelessly and check if the bad rx status comes up again. This won't give you any hints about the performance but maybe the network card of your laptop is defect. Try changing network ports and cables
Cheers,
Uli

I don't think the laptop is the problem (quite the opposite, in fact). As I mentioned, there doesn't seem to be any problem when I copy files back and forth with the laptop connected directly to the NAS. The problem is once I connect them both to the modem/router. I've tried changing ports and cables, no good yet. I even get the problem using wget to pull things straight off the net to the NAS. I guess I need to try a new router, but that seems like a real hassle. I was hoping maybe there was come config changes I could make to alleviate my problems.
Offline
The router you list is marked as 'discontinued' by the manufacturer as well as only being a 10/100 switch. It maybe the switch section of your router is failing, hence the bad crc messages you are getting - couple that with the wget problems and I think a new modem and switch or modem/router are required.
Here I have an ADSL modem connected to an 8 port 10/100 switch, that switch feeds 4 computers, a WiFi access point and an 8 port 10/100/1000 switch that feeds to 3 NAS and 4 computers. The Gb enabled computers and the NAS all have transfer speeds that they should. Transfer from the internet is limited by the modem only having a 10/100 network port.

Well, I added a cheap switch and haven't had an error message since. I wonder if the router is faulty or just non-compliant somehow. Anyway, seems to have solved my issue.
Another question, has anyone figured out how to stop the mounted USB drive permissions being reset every time?

D-Link needs to patch a file.
So no chance to do it ourselfs? (some start script modifications)
Trying to run FFP from USB but permissions is big issue.

Unfortunately yes. There is a way to patch the binary file ourselves, but afterwards i saw that the LED's on the front are not working again and i'm not sure if this is the only thing that was broken afterwards. I already addressed this issue to D-Link.

What file we are talking about? I am trying to use fstab to mount USB automatically after boot. Now without any success. Next candidate is hotplug.
Could you provide me that modified file (is it usb-storage.ko?) ? I do not care about LEDs and I could do more tests.
Cheers,
Tom

In your experience, is this likely to happen (soon)?

Picked up a DNS 320 a few weeks back. Have fun_plug running on it along with transmission and twonky mediaserver, everything going pretty well so far. Just need to get transmission work with my external IP (I have ssh working with this) and get a decent ftp server up and running with my external IP and I'll be fairly happy.
One thing that is bothering me though... I set the box to turn itself off every night when I'm asleep, and then I turn it back on again manually when I get home from work. However when I switch the box on, fun_plug doesn't work. I can't ssh/telnet into the box, transmission isn't running either. When I go into the webtool for the box and hit reset, everything works when it's rebooted. Does anyone know why this is happening? I'd rather not have to reboot the thing every time I turn it on.

Hi,
this is happening to me while first (funpluged) HDD is not detected - funplug is not executed. Reset always helps.
BTW not detected HDD is Seagate F4 2TB.

Dear all! I've been looking for this for a very long time.
I need an FTP client, that has graphical interface, easy to use, and uses download list, to download from ftp servers.
I'd like to install it on the DNS-320.
Please help me with this!
Thank you!

Dear all,
Everything works fine except the loss of the root password after a reboot.
I use the store-passwd.sh specific script for DNS-320.
Before reboot and after the login check in ssh, I have:
root@dlink-Pulse:/mnt/HD/HD_a2/ffp/home/root# find / -name passwd
/bin/passwd
/etc/passwd
/mnt/HD/HD_a2/ffp/bin/passwd
/usr/local/modules/default/passwd

root@dlink-Pulse:/mnt/HD/HD_a2/ffp/home/root# ls /bin/passwd -l

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 182 Dec 17 2010 /usr/local/modules/default/shadow
root@dlink-Pulse:/mnt/HD/HD_a2/ffp/home/root# ls /usr/local/config/shadow -l
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 233 Jul 16 06:51 /usr/local/config/shadow
During the boot, /etc/shadow has changed: It is bigger, this probably explains why when I want to change the password I must use the pwck that detects a duplicate on the root account.
Someone has an idea ...

NEWBIE Alert
Just got my DNS 320 and two 2TB WD green hard drives.
Installed fun plug *(yes the modifed dns 320 version)
Result, the .tgz file does not disappear but an ffp text file did show up with the followign text.
**** fun_plug script for DNS-323 (2008-08-11 tp@fonz.de) ****
Sat Jul 30 17:26:55 ADT 2011
ln -snf /mnt/HD/HD_a2/ffp /ffp
/ffp/etc/rc: Not found or not executable
Additional notes:
Hard drives recognized no problme
Tried files in volumes 1 and 2, nothing happens when done from volume 2
Using firmware version 2.00 dated 12/17/2010
there are two folders in Volume 1, p2p and ajaxpf, that were created when I first started the stock firmware and was tooling around.
Any assistance appreciated.

(SOLVED SEE BOTTOM OF PAGE) Okay my issue was that I added the tgz extension to the tar file but the extension was hidden but there.
All is good so far. I think I managed to login successfully as I reached the login stage but had to come up with using the login name admin (must be standard linux) and then the password I came up with and voila, im in , showed me the version of busybox etc..
Now my problem is the store password for the 320, it does not like the wget http address supplied, says its bad.......
I want to confirm that I am replacing a large file shown here
#!/bin/sh
echo "Copying files to mtd1..."
mount -t minix /dev/mtdblock0 /sys/mtd1
cp -f /etc/passwd /sys/mtd1/.
cp -f /etc/group /sys/mtd1/.
cp -f /etc/shadow /sys/mtd1/.
cp -f /etc/samba/smbpasswd /sys/mtd1/.
#cp -f /etc/ftp_tbl /sys/mtd1/.
#cp -f /etc/ftpgroup /sys/mtd1/.
sync
umount /sys/mtd1
echo "Copying files to mtd2..."
mount -t minix /dev/mtdblock1 /sys/mtd2
cp -f /etc/passwd /sys/mtd2/.
cp -f /etc/group /sys/mtd2/.
cp -f /etc/shadow /sys/mtd2/.
cp -f /etc/samba/smbpasswd /sys/mtd2/.
#cp -f /etc/ftp_tbl /sys/mtd2/.
#cp -f /etc/ftpgroup /sys/mtd2/.
sync
umount /sys/mtd2
echo "Done."
With a smaller file shown here
#!/ffp/bin/sh
echo "Saving Userdata to /usr/local/config/"
cp -f /etc/passwd /usr/local/config/
cp -f /etc/group /usr/local/config/
cp -f /etc/shadow /usr/local/config/
cp -f /etc/samba/smbpasswd /usr/local/config/
Just need help with the telnet commands as it doesn not allow copy in windows as permission is needed by root user.
SOLVED - DO NOT INVOKE TTLD OR TLLD whatever that MS Cwap is on the stock user interface. It buggers up connectivity.

Hello, is there a way to disable SMB and AFP completely in this box? (DNS-320)
Even if AFP is disabled in the web interface, all created shares are shared via CIFS and AFP
