change file permissions on DNS-320

I received my new DNS-320 yesterday and to save time copying the 1TB of media data across I setup the disks as standard and then connected them to my primary PC which was booted into ubuntu via a USB stick and transfered over SATA.  Issue is the file permissions and owners are all messed up.  I need to change them to no owner and 777 (poss 666).  I was hoping ffp would help which is installed and working.

Issue is Im not a great linux user, my only experience is through XBMC on ubuntu builds, but I am a fast learner, I understand the the chmod and chown commands but not sure how I browse to the correct folders over telnet to to this

Any help would be appreciated, Im not expecting spoon fed answers as I like to learn, a carrot would do wink
