torrent and usb disk question

Hello!
Have some easy questions about D-Link DSM-G600 MediaLounge Wireless G Network Storage!
Is it possible to download torrent files true DSM-G600? Is it easy to setup? Or most I use linux commands?
The second question is, how big can the USB 2.0 disk be?

thanks folks smile

Re: torrent and usb disk question

You can use ctorrent for downloading torrents. Of course to use ctorrent you need to have telnet access to your DSM-G600.
Get ctorrent binary from here and read manual from here http://www.rahul.net/dholmes/ctorrent/userguide.html

Without "screen" running, don't you have to keep your telnet session alive while ctorrent is still in progress?  Or do you use "nohup" to keep ctorrent going and logout?

I wasn't able to get "screen" going.  If you got it working please share your findings.

Thanks,

New kernel will fix "screen problem", use nohup or just add command lines to fun_plug and then reboot smile

Hopefully the new kernel will allow ipchain to work as well.

Re: torrent and usb disk question

Looking on the site for ctorrent, there is a script, ctcs, to be able to help control ctorrent.

Now, I'm not a complete idiot, just mostly an idiot, when it comes to trying to set it up.

I know that it requires perl (and not sure if it makes any difference but I finally got lighttpd working), and I tried downloading microperl, but when it uses microperl, it gives me an error that it can't locate strict.pm.

Is this a limitation, or do I need to download additional files to use with (microperl)?

If I could get to use ctcs, this would indeed be a wonderful step since I would like to be able to view the updates and use the other features it offers.

Thanks in advance. smile

Re: torrent and usb disk question

Most likely microperl is not enough. If you can you should run ctcs from chroot environment or remotely. I did run it inside wrt54gs for some time, but it didn't work well at all.

Re: torrent and usb disk question

Darn.  Was hoping for a way to be able to make my baby work my torrents for me, so that it frees up my computer some.  But being the impatient one that I am, I also like to see the latest stats on each torrent and such.

Thank you for the quick response.  smile

Re: torrent and usb disk question

nohup will save output to a file that you can share with lighttpd.
Alternatively you can setup a php front-end for ctorrent or to use transmission which has cgi based web interface.

Re: torrent and usb disk question

I'll take a look at that.  I seems like it may do the job quite nicely too.

You are definitely a wealth of information about this little wonder.  smile

Re: torrent and usb disk question

There's now another method to control ctorrent, it looks like torrentflux but it's for ctorrent.
http://www.thewulong.com/w3btorrent/
http://dns323.kood.org/downloads/w3btor … ta.tar.bz2
Modified wctorrent binary for DSM-G600 is inside of w3btorrent package.

Re: torrent and usb disk question

Hi Sala,

w3btorrent looks exactly like what I have been looking for to do with my dsm. However, whenever I try to access it, all I get is a blank page. From the ligthttp log, it seems there is something wrong with my php configuration:

2007-05-29 21:12:34: (mod_fastcgi.c.2502) FastCGI-stderr: PHP Fatal error:  Call to undefined function xml_parser_create() in /mnt/HD_a2/lighttpd/www/w3btorrent/inc/class/xml.class.php on line 122

I tried it both with php4 and php5, but both give the same error. Which php version did you use, and did you have to do any special configuration to get it to work?

Thanks again for creating this great page, which actually made my dsm useful! :-)

Re: torrent and usb disk question

I'll recompile php asp, it needs following features to work:
expat pcre posix session threads

Personally I use it on Gentoo hdd boot.

Re: torrent and usb disk question

Thanks Sala! Now I got the web interface working (have yet to try to download something).

One note: w3btorrent requires NOHUP. If you don't specify a path to this file at the configuration page, you will not be able to do anything except browsing the config page. It is a bit confusing, since it is not listed as mandatory. I only found out by browsing the source code.

Re: torrent and usb disk question

I remember that there was something about nohup at web site or at readme.

Anyway now I have had some change to download something but I am little disappointed because there is something wrong with ajax js/php scripts. It just takes too much resource and makes Firefox not respond. Hopefully author makes some improvements in this area.

Re: torrent and usb disk question

I tried that php with w3btorrent downloaded from this site. The torrent status never gets updated.
according to this: http://www.thewulong.com/w3btorrent/?pa … &qid=9 there maybe a glib version issue.
Had anyone get w3btorrent to work with DSM-G600?  finished a bt download?

Thanks

I got it to download a torrent completely. However, the web interface is not working very well. As you say, it does not update the status, and it tends to freeze up the browser. I'm not sure if this is an issue on the dsm device, or if it is because w3btorrent might only be half finished... I guess we'll have to wait for an update.

Yup, this post was mine, as anonymous. Without javascript it's working quiet ok. But personally I have had better results with transmission with cgi based web interface (if we compare ctorrent vs transmission performance).

Re: torrent and usb disk question

I will choose the first solution, “Transmission” seems too difficult to set up for me. XD
thx

Re: torrent and usb disk question

Now there is very good webui for transmission. http://trac.recurser.com/transmission/w … ingStarted
It need's at least transmission 0.82 with daemon built in and php 5.2 version with cgi, force-cgi-redirect, json, posix, session and sockets built in. Later I might compile a package for D-Link firmware users.

And I must say, it works very well and look very good comparing to other torrent solutions for DSM-G600 smile
