firmware 1.04 and prescan

A DLink tech support guy sent me beta version of 1.04 firmware (in order to test the national chars issue)

but I also noticed something odd
a new daemon started waking up my DNS

it seems to be very aggressive in taking up resources

Could anybody tell me what does this prescan do ?

Re: firmware 1.04 and prescan

My best guess is some sort of a uPnP server running directory scan. Does this beta differ from the one posted here before and can you share it?

Re: firmware 1.04 and prescan

I think it is the service that syncronize or check the harddisks if you ran a RAID1.

You can see how long the prescan service is still running if you go to the configurationsite of your snas
and then to status in the field Hard drive info is a sync time remaining that show the time that it takes to be completed.

I remember the prescan ran after i upload all my videofootage (100GB) to the system. After 5 hours the service finished
and after that i did not see it in the processlist anymore.

I dont know if the same service ran if you use RAID0.
