Hey. I use the DNS-323 as storage for my most important files (photos, master thesis etc). What is your experience, would you say it is safe to upgrade the firmware on the 323 while I keep my files on it or do I have to take a backup first?
I'm currently running fw 1.01 and using mirroring and JBOD with ext2 filesystems.
Thanks!

Always, its a good idea to make a data backup before any firmware upgrade.
I just upgraded my unit from 1.01 to 1.02, and my data was intact, but I reformatted the hard drives, because the firmware 1.02 changes the capacity calculation and I did not want to corrupt my data.

The following message is from D-Link:
**WARNING** Read Before Upgrading Firmware
New firmware for the DNS-323 often affects the way hard drives
are formatted and the way files are handled.
To avoid potential complications and loss of files, please back
up all files to another location before upgrading firmware.
After the upgrade, re-format your hard drives.
Once the hard drives have been re-formatted, it will be safe
to move your files back onto the DNS.
