I have to admit I'm tempted to try this one out.

Just one quick question: would a firmware upgrade require a reformat of the harddisks?

Cheers,

Emacs

Yeah, can someone repost the firmware so we don't all have to register to a german dlink site wink

They are banging it out at some speed, I was worried that the firmware development has stalled- no more!
The problem with RAID array uncleanly dismounted is gone but the fdisk still ends up in segfault.

Will upgrading from 1.03 cause me to need to reformat?  Definitely don't want to do that.  I assume fun plug still works in 1.04b?

Re: New Dns-323 Firmware V1.04b58 With Release 11/05/2007

I'm tempted to go for it with the BETA but I really want to install it on my production NAS so I don't want to risk it. I'm guessing that they should be releasing something soon considering the amount of work that is going on with it at the moment...

Re: New Dns-323 Firmware V1.04b58 With Release 11/05/2007

Just upgraded from 1.03 to 1.04b58.
I can power down DNS-323 and power back up from front panel, Window XP has no problem finding the drives. (no log in required)

Formatted one volume after the upgrade, and left the other volume as is.
Folder name and file name such as [琼瑶电影合集] and (ドラマ)山おんな壁おんな 第01話 works fine on both volumes.

dns 323 1.04 2xDeskstar 1TB

You must format your hard drive after flashing to the latest firmware.  Initially not able to read Chinese characters too, but ok after reformatting. smile

wow, good to know that D-Link is still working on the 1.04 firmware. It was slow I'd say, but it is better later than never.
I would try this as soon as I get my DNS back from FedEx (recently moved from U.S. to Germany and the stupid German FedEx is holding all my stuff on hold forever because of clearance delay. sad )

Just so you know - clearance delay = customs - Fedex can't make it happen any faster.

Re: New Dns-323 Firmware V1.04b58 With Release 11/05/2007

I just upgraded to 1.04B58 today. As I read here, a format of the HDDs would be necessary, I copied the content of the DNS-323 to a local harddisk before updating.

After the update the HDDs were still accessible but to be sure, I started to reformat it. Before the update I had a RAID 1 setup using the entire space (2 x 500GB) as the RAID. I went to "Tools" -> "RAID" but the formatting failed. The progress bar went up to around 12%, then it jumped to 98% immediately and the result was: "FAILED". After the restart the old configuration was still there and accessible.

In order to fix this, I removed one drive, formatting the other one as "Standard" (with success) and then vice versa. After that I inserted both drives and selected "RAID 1" from "Tools" menu again. Now it showed "SUCCESS" and it seems to work.

I have a quick question about this firmware.  I have a DNS-323 that I bought and am using in the U.S.  Is firmware 1.04b58 in English?  I only ask since the firmware is coming from a German site.

Re: New Dns-323 Firmware V1.04b58 With Release 11/05/2007

This new firmware replaces WU-FTP with pureFTP. Obviously the procedure to make the FTP running behind a NAT (patching the file ftpaccess) doesn't work for this FTPd.

I tried to add some lines to the pureftp.conf in order to restrict the range of port numbers used by the FTP server in passive mode but whenever the FTP server is started using the web interface of the DNS-323 these lines were removed.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Bernhard
