unformat drive

I had one drive in the DNS 232, then i added a second and it formatted both of them.

Is it possible to unformat a drive that was just formatted by the 323?
Im guessing no but it cant hurt to ask.

Cheers
Max

Re: unformat drive

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I do have a couple for you - was the second drive a new one or had it been used before, and which bay was the second drive in - left or right - facing the DNS-323.

Re: unformat drive

both drives were new when they went in.
i put my first drive in the right bay, and the second drive in the left. I know that i prob should have done it the other way around. Still it did say that it would not effect the data on my existing drive.

Any way not point complaining, just curious if i can get any of the data back?
Again cheers,
Max

Re: unformat drive

What firmware were you using?

With 1.03 and earlier the right bay seemed to have been considered as #1, and if the first drive was installed in the left bay and a second drive added after, it was possible for the drives to show up with the names flipped and it would appear as though the data on the original drive had been lost, when in fact it was there under a different name (Volume_2 rather than Volume_1), since you started in the right bay, this would not have been your problem.

Also - whilst there have been previous posts reporting both drives formatted as seems to have happened in your case, I believe the other users had all installed drives that had been previously used.

The reason I asked is to try to find a pattern as to what causes the DNS-323 to occasionally format a drive incorrectly.
