Re: New DNS-323 Firmware V1.04B63 with release 11/27/2007

Hi I have just uploaded fro 1.02 to 1.03 and was just wondering if I need to go to 1.04 ??
I only use the dn323 as a upnp nas for file streaming .

does it require a format going fro 03 to 04 I am a little unclear , and also is it safe to use the one from the download site as it is a later version ??

I have the one from dlink germany  but unsure if this fixes the raid 0 sleep problem .........not that I seem to have a slepp problem wink

thanks
Martin

10.3 to 1.04 formatting is required and yes this version works with XBOX 360 - I have both PS3 and XBox360 Elite

thanks for that angel
but now I am confused

did you go with V1.04B63 from dlink germany
or V1.04B82 from rapid share ??

and you said you didn't format in your post on 2008-01-06 20:22:57

I am most confused now :S

Can anyone upload the latest 82 beta firmware somewhere?
The link at rapidshare does not seem to work anymore...

yeah it does work , you just have to keep trying , it should say your credit has expired or something like that , and 'try back in 15 minutes ,
then it sends you to another page and you have to type in the code on that page and it starts to down load .

pain in the arse if you ask me

Re: New DNS-323 Firmware V1.04B63 with release 11/27/2007

By the way guys, on one of the regional D-Link forums I digged out the following info:
1. There was supposed to be a torrent-client built-in into v1.04
2. This was delayed by the d-link people, because of bureaucracy: they considered this a tricky issue (torrent's legal aspects) so its stuck for now.
3. There's still chance that torrent might be added later on.
4. On Nov 6 D-Link official told that v1.05 should have iTunes playlists support. In that post he mentioned that 1.05 should be out in a month or two.

All the info above was taken off a forum. All the above was said by D-Link official on that forum, not "just" people. Well, just some intresting info smile
(Didn't find it mentioned, so I figure I post this. Sorry if it WAS mentioned before though ;/)

buggymonkey - more questions questions...

1) What firmware are you running now?
2) What RAID (if any) are you running now?
3) What file system (Ext2 / Ext3) are you running now?

...and lastly,

4) Do you have a backup of your data?

Re: New DNS-323 Firmware V1.04B63 with release 11/27/2007

hey mig thanks for replying

1) currebt firware is 1.03 (release on the uk dlink site )
2) Raid 0
3) I assume it is ext2 as the origional firmware was 1.02 and ext3 was remove for 1.02 (as I understand it )

4) I would ideally not likke to reformat - I can back up the data 1.4GB worth but would need to organise that (hence asking )

5) I am now erring to stay with 1.03 as it seems to work with all my streamers  it would be nice for anybody to tell me any advantage of going to 1.04 ?

ps I am getting a transfer rate of about 118mbs (4.20GB in 4mins 44 seconds) this is a raid0 to raid0 over a 1gbs lan

I assume the bottle neck is the dlink cpu  any thoughts ?

Re: New DNS-323 Firmware V1.04B63 with release 11/27/2007

First, I need to tell you I am not running any build of "beta" FWv1.04b?? so I don't have
personal experience with this upgrade.

There have been numerous reports on this forum of users who are using
some build version of "beta" FWv1.04b??.  Some users report the need to reformat,
some users report no reformat required, other users backup their data,
reformat the drives anyway, then restore their data.

The critical thing (IMHO) to determine whether a user's posted experience in upgrading will
be similar to yours, is to find out the answers to the first three questions I asked.

Most posters just post their experience (good or bad) with upgrading, but fail to
report which firmware they are upgrading from, as well as, which build version
of FWv1.04 (b58, b61, b63) the are upgrading to.  Different build version can have
different upgrade experiences.  Also, different disk configuration, formated file system
and RAID configuration could have different upgrade experiences.

So, it's hard to give a blanket statement that FWv1.04xx does or does NOT require a
reformat.  I pretty sure that D-Link does not want you to have to reformat your
drives to upgrade firmware.  However, D-Link has not been successful in making
sure reformat is not required for previous firmware version for all users (as reported
on this forum).

Also there has been no FWv1.04 posted on US D-Link sites (I'm in the US)
so, some people may say you have to assume some "risk" using pre-released
firmware, which, just reinforces the necessity to have a backup of your data.
Other users are just trilled to be running FWv1.04b??, because it solves a particular
problem they were experiencing with previous firmware.

The advantages of FWv1.04b?? should be detailed in the change notes included in the
firmware distribution.  Generally, I have seen a newer version of Samba (v3.x) and
improvement to the streaming upnp server for gaming console clients being reported
in the firmware notes, as well as, other problems with the web GUI interface.

File transfers of 118 mega bits per second  (~ 15 mega bytes per second) is what I
get from my DNS-323 over wired gigabit lan, too.  This is also on par with the review
on smallnetbuilder.com http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/29671/75/
So, I think that is all that can be expected from this device.  I also assume the
limiting factor in the DNS-323 design is the low powered CPU.

Re: New DNS-323 Firmware V1.04B63 with release 11/27/2007

Using two 500GB WD in my 323 with v1.04b63. (Formated drives after upgrade.)

From my GB PC to my GB DNS-323 I average about 17.5MBS. Peek at 20.5, never seem to go below 10. I find when I move larger files, 9gig movie, I lose a bit compared to moving 9gig of lose files.

A week ago I was still on 10/100 swites and I held at 5.5MBS pretty well. But at 3 or 4 times faster I'm very happy with the new switches.

I have no idea how things worked on firmware 1.02 as I upgraded before installing any other software.

Buy Twonky

This works:

http://www.twonkyvision.com/Download/Tw … -beta.html

You need to implement funplug and telent to load twonky on the NAS....

It works perfectly ...

Twonky doesn't seem to like divx/xvid using PS3 as a client - hence why I've been playing around with alternatives. Twonky support informed me it was fixed in the newer version but it didn't seem to help me =/

jmjansen00: Twonky is just a bit of software that serves media content, it doesn't replace anything on the 323 and has nothing to do with ftp or printing. So to answer your questions, yes you can "go back" (i.e: remove the software), and the other questions are irrelevant.

Re: New DNS-323 Firmware V1.04B63 with release 11/27/2007

Upgraded brand new DNS-323 with single 500 GB disk (standard mode). I went from 1.03b41 (the firmware out of the box) to 1.04b82 from rapidshare. So far everything works ok. No reformat was required.
