Question asked Dlink:  When will a firmware come out that will allow a user to copy files larger then 2 gigs to the DNS 323 using Windows Vista?

Here is Dlink's reply:

"We have a firmware 1.02b this may work out for you but we have fixed this restriction in 1.01 FW. please try the new firmware tho."

The 2GB limit was not fixed in 1.01 - it was there in 1.02 and is still there in 1.02b.

Re: 2 GB file size?

I can confirm this issue using Vista Ultimate and DNS-323 1.02b

I seem to have also discovered a work-around for myself.
I use an excellent backup utility called syncbackSE and when I change the "file copying method" from "Standard" to "backup read/write file copying", I am able to successfully copy files >2GB.
For those interested, the setting is in the "Copy/Delete" options.

Maybe someone smarter than me can figure out how to make Vista/2003 do this without using a utility?

Re: 2 GB file size?

After readin the forum and updatin the firmware i still had trouble copying large files to the device. I tried a 3th party soft called total commander(free trial) and every file big or small that gave me problems with the windows explorer copy seems to copy fine within TC . Tried this on 2 WXP 64x machines and it worked like a charm. My vista Buisness machine seems reluctent to even map the drive (if anyone has an idea how to solve this ill appreciate some help) so i cant comment on that os. Ill try some 32 bit versions of WME and Wxp come morrow but i think this will help most peeps who have this problem untill dlink solves it themselves.

Re: 2 GB file size?

Well, my samba works fine for files now UP to 4GB, but copying a file over 4GB in size will fail.  I'm still investigating.  Running a debug right now.  I'm guessing its some 32bit value issue...

I'm determined to figure this out though!  It's killing me!

The 2GB limitation was not fixed in 1.01 - it was present in 1.02 and is still there in 1.02b
