Twonky --> 360

Hello,

I'm trying to stream video content from my 323 to my 360 using Twonky v.4.2.1 but even though I can't get the videos to show up on the 360 - I either get a 'No Video Files Found' if I share a single directory which definitely contains a WMV (a WMV file which plays if I stream it from my desktop to the 360) or if I share the entire drive I get a whole series of what look like directory names which a red can't access symbol. The names seem to be based on the ID3 tags of some MP3s I have on the drive.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why this might be? I'm really frustrated - I just want to watch a movie without having my desktop on all the time!

Cheers.

Re: Twonky --> 360

Right.

On TwonkyMedia 4.3.3.1

Can see Twonky from 360
Can log into Twonky from browser but only very, very intermittently.
Can go into directories on 323 from 360 but only after several attempts - most of the time it says connection lost.

Still no video on 360 :-(

Any further thoughts?

Re: Twonky --> 360

when i used to use twonky, it worked fine streaming to my 360 (this was a LONG time ago)

you do know that twonky on the 323 will not do conversion on the file (transcode). so your 360 wont play any files other than mp3, wma, mp4 (though i have never gotten this to work), wmv

Not quite true... the 360 now plays avi ( ie divx) and with mp4 it depends on whats in it smile I have camcorder movies ( in mp4) playing very well but other sources I have found in mp4 refuse to play.

I can't help the original poster although I have all this working quite happily, make sure though you haven't filtered out the files.

Re: Twonky --> 360

I have been using the pre-configured version from Twonky, same one in the above link, and had no issues other than some of the WMV's are no longer "seen" by my xbox360. (These few files and folders just don't show up any longer, even after a rescan.)

Since I flashed to the latest 360 firmware divx, xvid, and avi are all fine provided they are newer than version 5. I suspect this same flash has caused my issue with some WMV files.

Out of 400GB of 720p and 1080p movies only a handful are no longer seen and they all play fine on my PC's. (Streaming through Twonky wasn't tested on a PC yet.)

So, for the last few weeks of HEAVY use twonky has been performing well. If I figure out the issue with the old WMV's that are no longer seens I'll share...but as all the new HD movies are working at the moment this isn't a priority.

Edit: Prior to the 360 flash and my new 323 I used it to watch WMV's streamed from Twonky on my HPMediavault to the 360. Never had an issue in 6 months.

Re: Twonky --> 360

After doing tests on both of my NAS devices it seems Twonky will, for a yet unknown reason, miss folders/files on scans. If I change my folder search settings from type video to type all the rest seem to appear again.

I use a main folder for all media I stream, divide sub folders into audio, video, and photo, and then create a folder for every movie, album, or collection of photos.

Until late last night I use to tell each folder I search to look for only the type of media I keep there. This seems to have made the search engine confused or had the side effect of skipping some files or folders under unknown conditions. (I suspect if it finds an unsupported file format it skips that folder or branch.) Switching from type video to type all for the branches in question seems to resolved the issue.

I need to confirm that all files are being seen now but a quick look last night seems to show all that I noted have appeared again and run fine.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

if i recall (please correct me if i am wrong), the 360 will not play .avi's or divx files from the network, only from local storage (its CD ROM and or its own HD).  he would only be able to stream MP3's & VERY limitted movies to the 360... the rest of the movies would not play

Re: Twonky --> 360

If you get fed up of Twonky there's a compiled version of mediatomb in this forum which is a free media server. I'm also working on uShare which I've compiled and got running on the 323 but haven't been at home to see what it's like on a client yet.

Re: Twonky --> 360

As of the last update, Dec. 07/07, it will play over network, usb, or you can download from MS Live.

I stream AVI, Divx, WMV, etc., and only ran into two issues. Old formats need to be upgraded, like Divx 4 to Divx5, and Twonky's search issue above.

Re: Twonky --> 360

As I understand it, at this time only MediacCentre and Twonky can stream to the 360? Do either of the servers you note support the 360?

Re: Twonky --> 360

Just checked mediatomb and it doesn't support the xbox 360 yet - they were trying to get it done for the last release but didn't manage it in time so I would expect it for the next release.

uShare has xbox 360 support as long as the command is run with the -x or --xbox argument. Watch this space for a post after I've tested it (possibly tomorrow - out with work tonight, otherwise it'll be the weekend).

Re: Twonky --> 360

Not a problem. Twonky works well enough for now. As long as I reset the server once a noth the counter starts again. When I was looking for a solution 6 months back this was the only option...nice to see the freeware catch up. Look forward to your test results.

Re: Twonky --> 360

sorry i havent been on here in a while....
if someone could fill me in thatd be great.  did twonky stop supporting the dns 323?  i cannot find the device listed on their site anymore.

also way back when i posted a problem here and on twonkys page that no one really replied to .
i got twonky (demo) loaded on my dns 323 and i want to stream music to my 360.  it works but randomly will stop playing.  but i can still hit next song and itll play that one.  so i know the connection is still there.  any ideas???????

Re: Twonky --> 360

What 360 issue? The 360 plays most formats fine now but MKV was not included. I just convert to divix, xvid, avi or wmv for HD.

Re: Twonky --> 360

Twonky doesn't even display my MKV files... I thought if a device can play them that is all that matters, why won't it?
