Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Have been all through the forum over the issue of the DNS-323 lacking UPS capability and have seen some interesting work-arounds. Here's what I'd like to have:
Like many others, my DNS-323 is running on a home LAN with a number of other devices attached to the net. While it's plugged into a APC UPS, that USB connection is used for the desktop also on the UPS. Other pieces of my network are also on their own UPS, like the dsl modem, router, a switch etc. Several network items are not on any UPS, a couple of PAP2's, HP Laserjet as well as a couple ZyXEL WiFi AP's. In general, the critical items are on a UPS, other things like the PAP2's can loose power and not impact or suffer data loss like a NAS might.
Another requirement is that I don't want to leave PC or Server powered up and running (when nobody's here) just to send a shutdown signal to the DNS-323.
So what I'd like to have is a script that runs after the DNS-323 is powered up that will ping several devices on the network (2 PAP2's and the HP printer). If any one device responds the DNS-323 stays up. If all three fail to respond the DNS-323 shuts down. The IP addresses could be entered in a 2nd file independant of the script. The script would also include an initial 5 or 10 minute delay (sleep) to insure the other devices were back online after a momentary power outage that didn't take the rest of the net down. It could also have a test (don't know if it's required) that would check the IP address of the DNS-323 and if it's returned to the factory IP, ignore all checks for the other lan devices.
Any thoughts, suggestions or additions would be welcomed.
Guess I'll have to dust off my linux manual -
