CPU over/underclock

Hi! I can't find any thread here nor in google with the subject of over/underclocking DNS-323's CPU. Is there any way to do this? I'd like to underclock it to decrease the idle temperature with HDDs in standby mode. Now it's 42 °C. Thanks for help!

Re: CPU over/underclock

Looks like something that could be done only via hardware. I don't know if the dns cpu multiplies the clock received by some external source to reach its 500mhz, and now that i think about it, some times ago someone asked for the location of the temperature sensor to understand if the probed idle temperature was influenced more by the cpu or by the disks. Any updates about this?
It looks plausible to me that the cpu contribute only slightly to the total idle temp, and in that case even a huge reduction of frequency will not change much the unit idle temp...

This is true.  It would be pointless to underclock the cpu - it would hardly effect the temperature.

Re: CPU over/underclock

I thought that a HDD's temperature influenced mainly by the motor, spinning plates, and moving heads... you mean the idle hdd's main board increases the dns temperature so high? I'm now looking for a method to read S.M.A.R.T. temp info from connected HDDs to see what is the situation...

In idle mode, the motor/heads/etc... share in the total temperature count decreases considerably, so the hdd temperature should be mainly influenced by the disk board ( somewhere there is a topic about the unit power consumption that maybe could lead to some interesting observations about the consumption/temperature thing ).
Regarding the smartctl, you can try the pre-compiled package contained in the bzhou optoware set.
I've tried it... but my disks are not identified correctly ( sometimes smartctl thinks that they are graphic adapters.... or scanners....... ), i see some major device-discovery/sata-controller issues here. But maybe it's just me.
