The DNS-323 runs a Linux operating system, therefore you have to use a bittorrent client that is compiled for it.

There are really good instructions on this forum and on the wiki site (dns323.kood.org) on how to do this.

DNS-323     F/W: 1.04b84  H/W: A1  ffp: 0.5  Drives: 2X 400 GB Seagate SATA-300
DNS-323     F/W: 1.05b28  H/W: B1  ffp: 0.5  Drives: 2X 1 TB  WD SATA-300
DSM-G600   F/W: 1.02       H/W: B                Drive:  500 GB WD ATA

mldonkey seems to be to popular choice, it's pretty easy to install on the dns-323 and runs as a server allowing you to run a gui (usually sancho) on your windows box to control it, but you don't need your windows box running for the downloads to continue. Search the forum for mldonkey.

You can also use transmission with clutch.  Clutch is the UI that can be accessed anywhere with a web browser.  I've been using it for a few days and while it doesn't have all of the features of utorrent, it works well enough.

Re: Newbie using a windows vista or xp on my dns-323

Thanks for the replies guys. So Been searching all over the place i came across somebody actually posting that they had a dlink firmware that allows them to download torrent using the downloader section found in the dlink search utility web options is that legit or something made that up? the rev that they posted was like 1.04b28 i think. It was actually using Utorrent somebody was testing it too. But said it was kinda buggy. So If i were to try transmission using the ui do i still need my desktop to run in the backgroud or can i just run it on my nas?

thanks for the responds.

There is somebody working on Transmission for the DNS323.  It is in this forum:

http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t1805-Tran … S-323.html

Keep in mind that the "b" in the 1.04b28 stands for beta.

Transmission & clutch is also available as optware packages: http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa … /unstable/

ipkgs are just tar balls so you can unopack them if you don't want to use ipkg to install them.

Re: Newbie using a windows vista or xp on my dns-323

i went through that link that you suggested. They require the funplug files which i found the only thing is how do i edit and run funplug without a linux computer? i'm using vista and xp. If i'm able to edit on the the pc side it would be great. I try editing it with notepad or wordpad doesn't work.

Re: Newbie using a windows vista or xp on my dns-323

I also run from a Vista machine.  First go to the wiki link at the top of the page.  Under "How To" follow the steps for setting up a telnet session.  Once you do that, you can drop packages on using either ftp or the windows share.  Telnet in to the box and you can use vi to edit the scripts.  It is a really nice editor.  Commands for it can be found by googleing vi.  I am using Putty for the telnet client.
