Re: Bricked dns-323?

Serial is not too big a deal, there is a connector in the DNS. Just make sure ou have the pinout correct.  Good luck with the RMA, I don't think you will get it.

Re: Bricked dns-323?

Hello,
I'm reseting and reseting one of my 2 DNS-323 because I can't modify any saved settings: after each reload, ping is OK but no http access. I will open another thread.
But I found an always running reset method: while DNS-323 is on, press in the tiny pin hole at the rear, then press the front button. Keep pressed until the top blue led stops blinking, and that's all. If you put the DNS-323 off before using the rear hole, you will to wait 2 full blinking blue led sequences.

Re: Bricked dns-323?

Hi,
Just want to express my sincere gratitude to this thread. Found that ClipOn's idea with waiting 2 full blinking blue led sequences, approximately 2 minutes of holding the paperclip in the reset hole did the trick. Settings are gone, but all data was preserved. Many hours of despair saved after reading this thread.
THANKS smile

Re: Bricked dns-323?

Hi,
I am in a similar situation and have tried ClipOn's idea, but it does not work for me.

My DNS323 details:
Hardware version = B1
Firmware version = 1.06 (when bought, was at 1.03)

I have tried all variations I could think of, but nada, power button's led won't stop flashing.

So, could ClipOn and Hinter perhaps describe the exact procedures that they followed ?? Also, maybe answering
the following few questions could help:

Q1: Has anyone tried this procedure successfully with B1 and 1.06 combination ??
Q2: How long was the DNS323 powered on before using the procedure ??
Q3: Was the RJ45 cable plugged in ?? If so, did it get DHCP address from router
or was it direct cable to computer ??
Q4: Were the harddrives removed or present when using the procedure ??
Q5: As I understand, the procedure is: (whilst DNS323 is powered on with power light flashing)
       a) Press pinhole switch and keep depressed.
       b) Press power button and release, whilst pinhole switch is still depressed.
       c) Wait approx. 60 seconds until power light changes from flashing to solid.
       d) Release the pinhole switch.
       e) Repeat the cycle another time.
Is my understanding of this procedure correct, or was a different sequence followed??

I shall appreciate any advice regarding this. I do not know Linux and do not want 2 get into hacking
the kernel etc.

Also, the DNS323 has not been modified of hacked, except for the firmware upgrade that I did
from 1.03 to 1.06, using the standard browser access to login and apply the upgrade.

Best regards, André

Re: Bricked dns-323?

i personally haven't been able to test the procedure out.  by the time i read about the "solution," my unit was already en route for an RMA.
