Hi,
I was wondering, if there is a way to connect the DNS-323 via USB to the PC (as an external drive i.e. NOT using the ethernet link)?
I am aware that the USB port is used to connect printers to the DNS-323 which then can be mapped on the network. But from time to time (since I do not have a GBit Ethernet) it would be handy to use the USB port as an access point to the NAS. Anyone tried anything in that direction?
Thanks for the feedback,

There are USB hosts and USB devices - you can connect USB device to a USB host, but you cannot connect one USB host to another USB host, and you cannot conect one USB device to another USB device, your PC is a USB host and so is your DNS-323, so no, it doesn't work that way.
There are USB bridge devices, that allow you to connect two USB hosts together through the bridge device, I believe they act as USB network adapters, but I've never used them - in theory they could do the trick, if you could get the drivers loaded on to the DNS-323 - but at $65 average, it might be cheaper and simpler to just buy a network card and stick it in your PC or even a gigabit USB ethernet adapter, although I've never looked at pricing on this last item.

fordem is right, USB bridges act as a network interface, but require special drivers that you will probably not get to work. If you are using a PC(desktop) gigabit network adapters are pretty cheap. In the USA, I can get them for $10. A more expensive for notebook computers. It is definately worth getting a gigabit network adapter.
