5h4rk, If you have not saved your changes to /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow,
to NVRAM, you can try to reboot and the files will be restored from NVRAM.

Yes, I have restarted it and powered it down, but still can't map it. It's running Lighttpd, and the webserver is working fine too.

No. after reinstalling ffp0.5, now it's working ok, I have to configure and install everything again tho. I don't know what was the problem.

I had the same problem and couldn't figure it out. Eventually I got a working solution.
Go into your Easy Search Utility, click on the device name and than the volume name, select a drive and click connect. This will likely not work, but try it first. If it asks for a username/password, for some reason, no username/password you created will work. To get this fixed, here is what you do:
Click on configuration. This will launch the configuration web page. Log in. Click on Advanced. Add a user with password. Once user has been added, delete the user by clicking on the trash can next to the user you just created. Logout. Now go back to your Easy Search Utility and clieck on the device name again, volume name, select a drive and click connect. This should do it.
Not sure what happens but this is a recurring problem I have which is always fixable by following the above procedure.

Hi, I have a new DNS-323 with the latest firmware and I keep getting Access Denied issues, so far I've manually changed access rights to nobody as per the other post here, but this just keeps on happening.
I am running Vista, so was wondering if that's an underlying cause?
It's odd, because a client of mine has the identical DNS-323 and has had no issues as yet (but he's using Windows XP)
Any ideas?
Thanks, and big thanks mig for giving us all the quick'n'easy hack/fix it's not fun to wake up at 5am to do some invoicing to get a "Access Denied" on your Invoice folder (nearly gave me a heart attack)

I think the issue is caused by the users/group that Vista connects to the DNS-323
when access is granted to all users for that share.
I don't have a Vista system to test this, but you could try adding the option
guest account = nobody
to the [global] section of the /etc/samba/smb.conf file and restarting samba
Then connect to the share with Visat and create a file. Use telnet to determine what the
user/group permissions are for that file. Hopefully, the file will be nobody 501 rwxrwxr-w

Seems like a good idea to me - go for it!
As I've said, I don't have this problem working with Vista, but I don't allow guest write access.
I think the reason that I've not hit the problem is because I only allow write access to certain groups of users? You define the groups in the DNS323 - can you try that?

Another solution for me has been to run the "wizard" within the configuration page, keeping the same passsword etc and saving. Then it allows access to drive mapping and files. This has been on an XP and Vista machine. Haven't tried Attachments version, I will next time.
