I bought a DNS-323 this week, installed two Samsung 500G disks, configured for 2 volumes, created some folders, users, shares and everything was fine when connecting from Windows 2000 and XP.
When, from my Vista PC (SP1), trying to mount a share where only my account has R/W access, I would get a prompt all the time. Annoying. My regular account and password did not get through.
My PCs are in a workgroup, and I have the same accounts & passwords set up on all of them (and those accounts were also the ones I set up on the DNS-323). I had no problem accessing that particular share from the other PCs.
The firmware was 1.03, and I read in the 1.04 release notes (http://support.dlink.com/products/view. … DNS%2D323#) "Fixed issues with mapping drives in Vista when using usernames and passwords".
I thought, hey great, and so I upgraded to 1.04, I got no error messages, the machine rebooted.
Now the DNS-323 does not show on the network anymore.
Even Easy Search doesn't see it anymore.
An IP scanner shows response though, the machine is still using the IP address it got from my router previously.
I tried switching it off/on a couple of times, with and without disks in the machine but alas.
Is there anyone who can give me some tips as to what to do next ?

OK, found a solution.
Simple, should have thought of it in the first place.
A hard reset at the back.

After a few minutes of drive spinning (my fear was : reformatting), it came up, all data was still there and 1.04 operational .... and the login issue was solved !
