Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Last week I installed a second drive (160GB) in my CH3SNAS. It asked me if I wanted to format the drive, so I answered yes. Unfortunately, it had decided to format the existing disk (500GB) instead of the new one. Not good! So I quickly unplugged the CH3SNAS and took out the big drive.
Anyway, I haven't written anything to the formatted disk, and I know my data is still on there. I have checked by hooking the drive to a pc and running some scans under Ubuntu and Windows. The data can be found, but only by data carving, which means I need a second drive of 500GB to transfer the data, and I lose all my file structure.
Is there a way to unformat the disk? Or can I recreate or restore a filesystem in-place? If so, what is the best way to do so? I have fun_plug running on the box, but apparently it won't start as long as there is an unformatted drive in the NAS. Any help is appreciated!
PS. If necessary, I am willing to buy a second 500GB disk, either to make a byte-for-byte copy to work on, or to restore the found files to.

Gosh, this is not the first I heard about something like this. Is the DNS-323 really that fragile?

The firmware has been updated, but unfortunately I only read about the update _after_ the fact. The new firmware shows you which disk the box is about to format, and allows you to skip the process. Apart from this fatal flaw, I have had no problems with the CH3SNAS.

Looks that way, doesn't it - and apparently so is the CH3SNAS

Ok, great, thanks, but is there anyone with any knowledge on how to restore files on ext2?
