FFP stops working with second disk installed

I have been using a DNS 323 with a single 500GB Seagate disk (st3500630as) for over a year. I have been on FW1.02 and an old fun plug which chrooted debian for me. Everything was working fine but as I needed additional capacity I bought another 500GB Seagate last week. At the same time I decided to upgrade to FW1.05 and try out FFP 0.5 on the new disk.

My current situation is that everything is working wrt. the web ui, samba etc. with both - or any of the - disks installed. However is FFP telnet access only working if the new disk is used alone. If the old disk (I have renamed the fun plug file on it just for good measure, to prevent interference) is present in the device together with the new FFP enabled disk I do not get any telnet access..

I have tried all possible permutations wrt. placement of the disks in the unit.

Ideas, anyone?
