A couple days ago, my DNS-323 hung while trying to boot and I couldn't ssh, access its web site, or access any shares. Pressing the blue button also did nothing, so I pulled the plug. A day later, the square button and both hard drive LEDs turned pink! I looked at dmesg and found that the volumes became inconsistent and I needed to run e2fsck, so I unmounted all my three drives (2 HD and 1 Flash drive) and checked and fixed them. All the lights returned to blue, and things returned to normal...
Except for Samba. It's very strange because I can access the share from Windows XP, but not from my OS X Leopard. OS X logged this error:
5/25/08 11:28:54 PM kernel smb_iod_reconnect: The reconnect failed to netstore! error = 4
5/25/08 11:28:54 PM KernelEventAgent[25] tid 00000000 received unknown event (40)
5/25/08 11:28:54 PM KernelEventAgent[25] tid 00000000 type 'smbfs', mounted on '/Volumes/Volume_1-1', from '//James@netstore/Volume_1', dead
5/25/08 11:28:54 PM KernelEventAgent[25] tid 00000000 found 1 filesystem(s) with problem(s)
Any idea what's wrong or how I can fix this? The volume is accessible from SSH and Windows XP. And this doesn't appear to be an OS X issue either because when I added a share on Windows XP, I can see it from OS X without problems. I tried rebooting both the laptop and DNS-323 numerous times but to no avail. What's error 4 or event 40? Anyone know?

Turns out that the issue was mldonkey. Once I disabled it, everything was working again. I tried re-enabling it again, and once again samba failed to connect with OS X. Very strange.
Anyway, I guess the problem is solved. I'll just have to keep mldonkey disabled until I need it or until I find a replacement.
