Network scanner

Hi,

I'm a newbie in Linux and I was hoping that someone can point me the right direction on how I can set up my DNS323 so that it can function as a network scanner (in addition to it's already excellent network printer). I have a Brother MFC 7420 which work well with the 323 but I can't figure out how to get the scanning to work given my stupidity.

Can someone provide me with some advise? I'm pretty sure that it can work given that someone actually posted about it

http://charly4711.wordpress.com/2008/04 … er-part-1/

but I'm hoping that there's an easier guide to follow?

Thanks for everything and anything

Re: Network scanner

Since last night I got as far as installing fun_plug, optware and the sane-backends onto my DNS and I think I'm pretty close to getting my scanner to work on the DNS. However, as newbie as I am, I'm having trouble getting the sane config files to configure correctly. Has anyone got prior experience and is willing to help here?

Re: Network scanner

Hi. i manage to do the same thing as you, but for now, i'm in my exams week so it will be for the next one. The method presented in the link you found seems to be affordable, this is what I'll try. I'll write here my story when I start.
See you next week.

Hey, this sounds like a good thread. I'm a linux newb too, and am curious as to if anyone's got a network scanner going with their DNS!

I could be wrong, but, somehow I don't think that's what they had in mind when they asked about a network scanner

You're right, that's not what what we thought. To clarify, I'd say that we want to be able to use our scanner (i.e. you know, the device you use to make a photocopy) from every computer on the network. I said that I managed to do this, but I had to report (lack of motivation). However, i still plan to do this soon.

I've written down my experiences with getting a network scanner working in this thread:

Hi there, I just managed to follow this guide, that seems to be very good. But, bad news for me, my scanner isn't recognized by sane. i have a samsung scx-4100. they provide a sane backend, but only for x86 and x86-64 architectures, so i couldn't installed it on my dns-323 nas... And, of course, there is no alternate backend. Do you know if it exists a way to use those backends on a different arch (I'm pretty sure there is no way, but ...), or do you have any idea? Thanks for the answer.
