Vista Crashing when copying files to DNS-323

All,

I am currently running a DNS-323 with Firmware 1.05 and Vista 32 Bit with SP1 and the latest patches.  I seem to have aquired a new 'feature' that occurs around 80% of the time when copying files from my harddisk to the DNS-323 - Vista hangs and the whole system re-boots.

It is not a very helpful feature and I could do with some guidence - I have the system Ethernet wired via a Linksys SRx200.  I think this issue seems to have started after receiving a new MS patch to Vista ?

Thanks

If you have a second system running XP (or Vista without that patch) perhaps you could test to see if the problem is specific to that one system.

Have you installed the vista driver from the US site?
If so that may be the problem, it gave me blue screens (others have been ok with it). If not, I would avoid it.
I unistalled the driver as all good.
I have 2 vista laptops attached via wireless without much trouble. (my own mistakes and experiments aside)

Thanks for the response - no I've not installed the US drivers at all and I do not have another Vista PC without the patches - I'm pretty sure this is where the problem lies somewhere.

Do you by any chance use the Eset NOD32 anti-virus application? I ran into some problems regarding network shares when this tool was installed. Removed it and now everything works fine.

Or Norton... if you do try disabling 'auto protect'...... fixed the problem I had recently.....

Re: Vista Crashing when copying files to DNS-323

I use F-Secure but took the suggestion - I disabled both the Software firewall and Anti-virus - still crashed and re-booted.  I have reviewed the Performance log and there seems to be a component of SP1 which is falling over so I will uninstall and re-install SP1 -will let you know how I get on.

Re: Vista Crashing when copying files to DNS-323

Could you please check the Vista Reliability Monitor and check what application or Windows component exactly crashes?
A look at the Event Viewer might help as well.
If it's explorer.exe crashing, check if some .dll was involved in the crash.

Re: Vista Crashing when copying files to DNS-323

KyleK

Its reporting a Disruptive Shutdown version 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 -this is common throughout the copying.  I've also had failure type -OS stopped working and a number of Hex addresses.

I'm currently running the LAN diagnostic tool and may also run some memory checks if no joy.  I have another LAN card connected so may try this to see if there is a fault on the primary connection.

Thanks for your assistance

Re: Vista Crashing when copying files to DNS-323

Ok -seemed to have isolated the issue.

I switched to another, spare network port and eveythings fine.  So I either have a faulty network port on the PC or via the router that I'm using.  Strange how the problem only occurs on the D-link with lots of file copying but I guess its when the network is being 'stressed'......
