Multiple instances of a process/program under top: normal?

Hello all! I must say, as a recent DNS-323 buyer/hacker, this forum has been a godsend. With the help of the posts here, I've been able to add all sorts of cool features to the DNS-323 device.

I have a quick, probably simple question (I'm not a Linux expert by any stretch)... I used the TOP command to view what is currently running on my box. I've noticed that many processes have multiple instances (i.e. 4 instances of /ffp/bin/php-cgi, 3 instances of /ffp/bin/transmission, 4 instances of mt-daapd, etc). Is this normal, or am I wasting precious RAM by needlessly (and unintentionally) running each of these daemons multiple times?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

that's perfectly normal, don't worry about it smile

php-cgi 4 times,
smbd 2 times, nmbd 2 times
transmission 3 times
