I am a newbie in NAS/Linux. I am looking to buy DNS-323 and have few question. Tried the seach extensively but in vain.
1. For downloads, can I contorl the bandwidth based on time & day schedule. I want to maintain my VOIP so would like to have download at full speed when away for work etc and at reduced speed when at home. For example -
Weekday (Monday thru Friday)
-----------------------------------
unlimited upload/download after 10.00pm;
20kbps/80kbps b/w 4:00pm-9.59pm;
Weekend (Saturday thru Sunday)
--------------------------------------
Unlimited upload/download after 11.00pm,
20kbps/80kpbs b/w 7.00am-10.59pm
2. Is email notification for completed BT donwload & 100% share ratio supported.
3. Though not relevant,is WOL officially supported.
Ideally I am interested in knowing official support in the latest firmware as I know nothing about linux and doubt that I can accomplish any kind of hack etc.
Would appreciate some helping hand here.

You have many wishes! If you are not very handy with linux you will maybe in quite a time if you but this DNS-323 NAS. In the firmware there is no solution for your demands.
Maybe you have to spent some more money and buy a synology NAS, it has good software / firmware to manage your torrent and other downloads. Look for yourself!

yeah, I agree with TomSluyts: the built in bittorrent client is very very basic (though it works great); you are certainly going to have better luck with bandwidth throttling via your router.

I use a billion 6404 VOIP router and this has bandwidth throttling built into it. I have set this up so that VOIP has the highest priority, web next, and bt last.
Additionally I use transmission & clutch as BT software on my NAS and this also has ul/dl throttling capabilities. While transmission and clutch does not have built in scheduling capabilities I use a cron job to start all torrents, or stop all torrents depending on days and times. It works well for me as in Australia a lot of ISP's provide extra bandwidth in 'off-peak' times.

Hey rx2, as a guy who has successfully set up transmission and cluth, do you have a tip or two for me to set them up? I've read up on their very large thread but it really does look like a nightmare. Any shortcuts available?
