Hi,
I have DNS-323 FW 1.05 and fun plug 0.5 (don't know much about this one though) and was wondering how can I attach DNS-323 to either vmware ESX server using add storage function or to Novell SLES 10 (OES2)? I was trying to mount Volume_1 or Volume_1-1 in ESX server, but it keeps saying that it cannot connect to DNS-323. Is there any package that will enable me to use DNS-323 as stated before, or am I just wasting my time? Thanks

What protocols do Novell SLES 10 (OES2) and/or Vmware ESX server use to communicate with the storage - if it's not CIFS/SMB then it will not work with the DNS-323 out of the box, you may be able to add the required functionality through fun_plug.

ESX support cifs and NFS. But do note that if you use cifs, you cannot use it to store vmdk, only can use it like "vmimages". You'll have to manually mount the share from cls
Don't expect it to have great performance if you use vmdk files over NFS on the DNS-323
SLES support cifs, as well as NFS, FTP

Hey quekky, thanks for the quick reply. Since I have some data on the DNS-323 I just wanted it to be accessible either via SLES - OES (to be mapped via OES) or to use it as storage on ESX that will be assigned to a Windows box running on ESX server, so the data can be accessed via IIS. So far I've tried both connecting it to ESX server but somehow I can not get it to work. Any format for the folder name in the Add storage wizard doesn't work.
On thr other hand, SLES - OES2 has option New Storage Location (NetStorage), but regardless of using smb://nas.domain.local or cifs://nas.domain.local cannot seem to get it working.

sorry, type wrongly. in ESX should be CLI (command line interface) You need to do the standard "mount" command with all the options. Do note that by default ESX have block a lot of incoming and outgoing ports (somewhere in the option you can unblock the ports)
Not very sure about SLES, I believe using smb://ip should work

I have CH3SNAS with Kernel NFS enabled working on VMWARE ESX .. it worked flawlessly after using Kernel NFS ..
when using User Space NFS the function READDIRPLUS is not supported needed for VMWARE ESX
and the issue so far is that DNS323 does not supporte Kernel NFS .. it's not enabled (yet?)
