I'm getting some strange behavior from my DNS 323. (has one 500gb disk). Currently It has an amber light on in the bay that is empty. The blue light is still going on the side with the drive. I haven't switched sides or anything. It's exactly the same as when I first turned it on a couple months ago.
It won't show up on my network once the amber light turns on.
My first guess is that I've configured it wrong and it thinks it has an extra drive there. I could reformat and try again but I don't want to unless someone else can confirm that this is the problem. But, it's been running like this since I've owned it and just now I'm getting the amber light?
I suppose the disk could be bad but the 323 performs well for a little while when it is first rebooted, then eventually the amber light turns on and it disappears from the network.
So is it a disk issue or a 323 issue? what next?

PS I'm using firmware 1.05 and connecting with a Mac 10.4
