Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

sorry if so brief, is 3am but wanna write down my ideas and post before zzzzzz tonight.
huge fan of what this group/site does, luv funplug and running linux on this box, but afraid of upgrade and losing data
first off, anybody confirm the media server / ps3 issue is fixed? heard was but wanna check
Bittorrent any good cause it looks like people are still using fun plug instead?
fun plug is confirmed working in this? v.05 is newly installed atm :-) /w usb drive, nzb, and a few misc
my storage seems to run all the time; is known prob? linux / raid? or fixed by upgrade?
most importantly; anybody done this uprade? do need to know anything? backup required or has people been able to keep the files most of time, some of time, etc..? should I remove drives b4 and could I backup the raid info and restore afterwards?
I am largely out of money so prolly don't have means of buying a drive to, and nobody i know has anything past 500gb (also no "spare" hd)
Thanks all for time,
to those who contribute code, time, etc..
keep up the good work :-)

Are you runing RAID 1? If you are, there is a script I wrote for upgrading the Hard Drives to work correctly once you move to F/W 1.04 or F/W 1.05 from 1.03. You can search fo it on the forum, I can't quite remember where it is off hand and I do not have time right now to look.
There is no Bit Torrent support in F/W 1.04; it was introduced in 1.05. It has several problems and you may want to consider Transmission.
I don't know about the media server, I use NFS via fun_plug for connection to my popcorn hours.
Yes, ffp 0.5 works. I run it on both F/W 1.04 and F/W 1.05

sorry, I was thinking of v1.05 but kinda fried att of writting. lol
I am running it as bfd (JBOD (Linear) so I'm guessing there's no real way to get this restored?
for torrent:
I've tried "automatic" and transmission, transmission is running /w clutch but I cannot connect via website @ http://localhost:9091/
I'd actually rather use a teeny command line client if one avail. Currently looking @ ntorrent here on forum, but we'll see I guess.
if anybody has a built client for fun_plug please post,
I'd luv to see the developer setup one in the svn pool

okie, well... just a little after testing clutch/transmission it failed, tried several howtos to get working but had some issue or another...
This one here @ http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t2719-%5BR … ssion.html
does not give me error msgs so far but I have nothing to download to test it atm
oh wells *shrugs*

Out of curriosity, why are you running JBOD? Unless you keep a good backup, a disk failure will kill your data. Unless you are using a single file that is greater in size than your drive, then I do not see the point. You may want to consider using 2 individual drives and if you need them all accessable from 1 volume, just mount one of the drives to a directory on the other.

well.. a few reasons really... First I had heard linux support on dns-323 when first got it but not tried it, wasn't sure or working and actually had a few tries to get working.... so was not option att to mount the drives via fun_plug/ssh/telnet. Seconly, depending who you ask, lazyness/simplicity/stupidity/etc... I wanted a single drive without worrying about: d1 - media d2 - warez. I was also under the understanding that data could be lost despite which raid, but could be individually mounted in linux to save data...
My 2 biggest reasons for upgrading is upnp/ps3 compatibility, torrent. Torrent working now with transmission (thank you KyleK) so a bit less worried.. unless is confirmed working ps3

Individually mounting in linux only works with RAID 1 since you have 2 mirrors. In RAID 0, you only have half the data, hence nothing, and in JBOD, you only have the data from the disk that is still good, but you may not have the ability to actually access it.

Have you checked out mediatomb? I use this to serve avi's to my PS3 and it works nicely.

I've briefly looked at a few things like that, mediatomb seems fairly straighforward to use and install.. hopefully
update:
thanks to those who wrote, atm I am less likely to upgrade. I just "accidently deleted" 400gb of stuff on an unrelated pc, though linux I think messed most of it considering I didn't use wildcards... UGG!
sorry, needed to bitch. now I'm done....
