Re: Performance of Gbit switch in 100 Mbit network

Fonz,
Installed the latest ffp and ffp-reloaded.  You make it WAAAYYY to easy to install.  ;o)    Booted into ffp-reloaded and ran some cats, copies, mounted my USB drive ran som cats, copies, mounted my second HD ran some cats, copies, etc...   Pretty much the same results as far as timings and throughput.  Always CPU bound with most of the CPU type being sys.
Disk-> Null 45MB/s
Disk-> Disk  24MB/s

Cheers!

Re: Performance of Gbit switch in 100 Mbit network

Hi there!

Can't say I understood that much of what you wrote in this thread, but I wanted to pass on the results of my research into the initial problem.

1) In a pure 100 Mbit environment, the D-Link switch is as fast as the old one.

2) When I force the CH3SNAS to use 100 Mbit, the D-Link switch is as fast as the old one.

3) When used against the only Gbit-capable NIC we have around here, transfers from the CH3SNAS via the D-Link switch are between 50% and 200% faster than in a 100 Mbit environment.

So, I just ordered a used Intel Gbit NIC for my desktop PC on eBay, 'cause I read that the Intel ones are supposed to be quite fast.

Hope, this helps.

So long
Ben

Conceptronic CH3SNAS FW 1.03, ffp from USB key.
