Re: How do you connect this 323 to a mac?

In Finder press COMMAND+K and connect to the share "smb://DNSIPADRESS/SHARENAME", e.g. smb://192.168.1.10/data.

Maybe iTunes will work afterwards. BTW, did you activate the setting to look for shared libraries?

Have fun

Great, the share did work!!!!

I did set the setting in itunes to look for an itunes server, but that hasn't worked for me yet... :S
Is it possible to connect via the internet to an itunes server?

Pleasure, don't know if it works via internet - I would assume that itunes only scans the LAN, could work if you use a VPN connection.

In the first version the iTunes server was possible to access over internet. However apple was slapped by the record companies and has since disabled this function. Now it only works on the local LAN (same subnet).

There is ways to forward this with mt-daapd but you will still need a server on your Local LAN for iTunes to pick it up.

What kind of server could that be and is that server something you install on the DNS-323?
And besides iTunes... could you do it with winamp or Windows Media Player perhaps?

Re: How do you connect this 323 to a mac?

If you have your DNS-323 on your LOCAL lan i.e not behind a wireless router or so. Then you don't need to do anything. However if you have a router inbetween you need a server on both sides of the router.

I have a cable modem which feeds the router with internet.
Then the routers connects to the vista PC, the DNS-323 and through airport with the iMac G5
