Weird file access issues

I am having some weird issues with accessing some files from my desktop computer.  The computer is attached via CAT 5e cable to router and so is the DNS323.  The files I am having issues accessing are some word document files saved on my DNS323.

I am unable to open, copy, delete, anything, etc... some of them on my desktop computer.  This is using word or just trying to copy or delete the file...nothing.  There are some of them that I can open, copy, delete.

Here is an error that I get when trying to open them in word:

Code:

The document name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions.
* Check the file permissions for the document or drive.
* Use the File Open dialog box to locate the document.

File permissions in windows are all unchecked.  I have tried to check the file permissions via telnet.  But I am unable to change directory to where these are.  Directory name has spaces and is long.

Here is the odd thing...When I open them via our laptop that is wireless connected to the same router/network.  They open... WTF???

What is going on?

Re: Weird file access issues

Ok, after doing some troubleshooting.  I tried the "Detect and Repair" tool in word.  Don't know what this does but it did work.

There is still a problem with how the DNS323 is setup.  Since I have ffp installed.  I have setup different folder access rules for my wife.  I didn't want her to have access to ffp so I just set up her laptop to have access to the folders she needs.  I set it up without a password with full read/write.

On my computer, I have set the DNS323 with full read/write to the root with a password.  I have noticed that I can access the word documents under the mapped settings I have set for the laptop.  But when I open up the same file via the mapped setting to root with password it will not open.

Odd behavior...  Anyone know what is going on?  Thanks

BTW...I deleted this from the "Custom Firmware" section as it was posted to the wrong forum.
