Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Hi all,
I havent got around to purchasing a dns-323 yet, Im currently researching all I can about the NAS.
I believe the system can run a script called fun_plug.
is it possible to run this fun_plug from a USB stick which is connected to the NAS via a USB HUB while other devices are also attached to the same hub, e.g. usb printer, usb harddrive, and usb card reader.
could anyone please confirm this is possible?
thanks so much!

Yes, it is possible. I got a unpowered usb hub connected to my nas. I got fun_plug running on a usb stick and a Canon printer/scanner connected to the hub.

You can find more about this topic here: http://dns323.kood.org/howto:external_drive

Yup -- I even reloaded a new kernel to run along with the entire root partition over my USB stick.
This way I can play with new kernels and modules without messing with the firmware and since it is on a USB stick, it still allows my drives to power-down. Plus, if I mess up, I just have to pull the stick and I am back to the default setup.
