Hi everyone, I've been reading through the forums for possible solutions or answers to my question but wasn't able to find one specific to mine so I'm posting this Q.
I have a Wireless-G network at home. I have two brand new Core2Duo laptops, and both transfer to and from the DNS-323 at about 600-700kb per second. For 6GB of music it took about 8 hours to transfer from the DNS to my laptop.
Is this speed normal over a Wireless-G network?
My DNS setup is:
Two 500GB Seagate Barracudas 7200RPM in RAID 1 config
Firmware 1.5
Thanks in advance for any help and I'm happy to answer any other questions.

Sounds slow to me, I can get 2 mb/sec quite commonly for syncing files, and for transfering movies and large files.
I would be disappointed with your figure. It is wireless though.
If both laptops are the same, it is likely your whole setup, distance to router, router type, etc etc etc etc.
My 2m/s when the laptop (vista, no jumbo frames), G wireless at about 85-95% signal.
Have you tried a wired transfer to compare?

There tends to be confusion with abbreviations in these discusions - so I'll specify bits & bytes for clarity.
Wireless-g is theoretically capable of 54 mbit/sec, but in practise will not deliver more than perhaps 30~32 mbit/sec under optimum conditions - this would translate to roughly 3.0~3.5 MByte/sec - my personal best has been 20 mbit/sec or roughly 2.2MByte/sec
If you are getting appreciably less than this, I would suspect you are in an area prone to interference - apart from changing the channel you are using, try to stay at least five channels away from any neighbouring wireless networks (1/6/11), there isn't much you can do.
Switching to wireless-n, on either the 2.4 GHz band (same as g), or the 5GHz band might alleviate your problem, but there is no guarantee.

Thanks for your responses.
I didn't try using it wired yet because I was pretty sure it had something to do with wireless setup so I wanted to get a better idea of what to expect from Wireless-G.
There are a few other networks in the area and while I'm on channel 11, I thought that was more for security than speed/interference so I'll definitely try playing around with that setting.
