midnight commander - mini howto

I posted a small howto for building the midnight commander from sources with actual fun_plug-0.5:

http://www.dl-support.de/forum/viewtopi … 113#141113

but it would be nice to have this one as a ready downloadable package. May be fonz can include this one as additional package?

Re: midnight commander - mini howto

Dear wirbel!
Thanks for your quick answer.
When I type the:
tar xfz mc-4.1.40-pre9.tar.gz
I get the following error:
tar: can't open 'z' :  No such file or directory.

So i am very newbie so please tell me what could be the problem.

Best regards:

C.

Did you see any error messages or did you mistype something?

Re: midnight commander - mini howto

Try using 'tar -xfz ....' however i think the tar included in the firmware is very featureless, so you should use the one in the fun_plug. Try 'which tar' to see which tar you are using.

Re: midnight commander - mini howto

If you installed fun_plug with all packages you should have gnu tar-1.1.9-2 instead of busybox.

This is wrong. The file name must immediately follow the 'f' option:

Code:

tar xzf mc-...tar.gz

Re: midnight commander - mini howto

Seems to be a busybox bug - usual tar doesnt behave so.

Re: midnight commander - mini howto

hi, when i use "tar xfz mc-4.1.40-pre9.tar.gz" i get the message, that there is no space left.

root@Storage:~/mc_installdir# tar xzf mc-4.1.40-pre9.tar.gz
tar: write error: No space left on device

this can hardly be due to the real amount of capacity, since there are about 1,6 TB available.
any suggestions?

regards,
Mikromann

Re: midnight commander - mini howto

I suppose the homedir of root is on a ramdisk. So first change directory to a place on harrdisk.

Re: midnight commander - mini howto

Why that MC does not show files of great volume?

It is more than 2 Gb.

It can be solved somehow?

Other problem: there are no Cyrillic characters.

Help?

Thanks...

Re: midnight commander - mini howto

You don't have 'patch' installed.

Re: midnight commander - mini howto

well, the patch command seems to be missing/not installed or your PATH variable is not correctly set.

Anyhow, you can find the readily compiled package at wolf-uli's page:
http://ffp.wolf-u.li/additional/app-misc/

Maybe this will easier for you.

Re: midnight commander - mini howto

I have installed wolf-uli's mc package and it works fine however I am struggling with setting the TERMINFO and TERM variables for telnet.
It is forgotten between the telnet (not ssh) sessions, TERMINFO comes back blank and TERM as vt102.

I wonder is there a script file that is executed every time a user logs in through telnet? I have tried both /ffp/etc/profile and fun_plug but the terminal variables get lost.

Please help.....
