have recently reinstalled Vista Ultimate x64 on my main workstation (first time i've had to reinstall Vista) and have hit something that frankly has myself nearing an aneurysm.
my user account is the same as it was prior to the OS reinstall (same name also used prior with WinXP x64). i have two DNS-323 arrays on my network and mapping them results in both having the same name being "ADVirtualDisk\ (\)". i've never seen this before... worse changing the name of one changes the other to the same thing.. looking into the Registry there is an entry for ADVirtualDisk entry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2.. here it is adding a name string that apparently takes the changed name and imposes it over any mapped DNS-323 labeled "ADVirtualDisk" at the time of it being mapped which for me is everytime i map any drive on my network (aka either DNS-323).
i've also noticed that the mapped DNS-323 arrays are also missing a wealth of tabs when the properties are brought up. there's no security tab for instance. what am i missing here? i reinstalled XP x64 with these NAS's around with the same user account several times and have never seen this until this reinstall of Vista... there's no official driver for Vista x64 and i can't remember having to install anything when i first installed Vista so i am reaching out for help.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

sorry for the double post but of course no one replied.. so four phone calls into D-Link support and they are apparently dumbfounded. needed to clear up my post from earlier this AM.. this is the oddity experienced after a clean reinstall of Vista Ultimate x64 and 100% identical application list as installed prior to the reinstallation minus two video games:
1. mapping the Volume_1 directory on either DNS-323 on my network (there are two) results in a mapped drive called "ADVirtualDisk" for each mapped DNS-323.. changing the name of one changes the other as there is a Registry entry created under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2 for ##ADVirtualDisk# (only one entry)
2. both mapped entries for "ADVirtualDisk" allow me to go in and do whatever i please on both DNS-323 Volume_1 directories, however, the properties for each are void of the "Security" tab as well as the "Offline files" tab
3. mapping either DNS-323 using the D-Link utility actually maps nothing --> under "My Computer" there is no visible presence of either mapped DNS-323. mapping outside of the utility through Windows actually prompts that the Volume_1 directory on both DNS-323's are already mapped only with the device name and if i'd like to replace such with the IP. opting to replace the device name with the IP then puts the expected mapped network drive links under "My Computer"
4. mapping the web_page directory on either DNS-323 behaves as one would normally expect. the network drive is listed as web_page (\\192.168.1.7) or web_page (\\192.168.1.8)
i have not had a need to use any user accounts within either DNS-323 as only my wife and i access either NAS on our household network. was pondering deleting the network access instance of Volume_1 from one or both DNS-323 but was hoping anyone had a suggestion as i'd really like to avoid a format/reinstall of the OS again in hopes of that resolving this but i somehow doubt that such will resolve the problem seeing as mapping the web_page directory works as expected...

Hi.
I have the same problem. Or... I'm just using one dns323, with lots of media on it. I want Windows Media Player to monitor one of the shares there. I have the share mapped as W:, but once added it to the list of monitored folders, I see that a "\\ADVirtualDisk\" is listed. And trying to reach \\ADVirtualDisk\ won't help much, because there is no such name on the localnet. The disk is normally accessed via \\attic\... Which worked after a couple of rounds renaming it using the dlink web-interface.
I have vista64 as well.
Great.
I'll mess around and see if I can get rid of it...

Bengalack,
i was able to get 50% of this issue resolved no thanks to D-Link's support after spending over seven hours on the phone Monday night (mostly on hold either waiting for a tech after being disconnected or being placed on hold by techs while they consulted a higher power aka the Love Guru).
if you go through the Registry to the location i mentioned previously remove any instance of ##ADVirtualDisk#. download the current "Easy Search" utility from their site. map the DNS-323 volume with it being ran as an Administrator. chances are you won't see anything under "My Computer" that you've just mapped. restart the system and it'll be there as it should show up --> VOLUMENAME (\\device name or path). i'm still working at solving the lack of a Security tab under the volume properties and will be having a D-Link L3 tech remotely getting into my system to figure out what is going on here asap.
i have no idea where the source of the problem is but in my case every system in the household (Ultimate x86 or x64) has mapped these DNS-323's without issue when my DNS-323's were running FW 1.04. they were up'd to 1.05 not long after its release so that might be involved and only reinstalling months after the FW update brought this to light.. either way the fact that the web_page directory (previously not mapped anywhere) is able to be mapped and such appears exactly as one would expect with the Security tab and all i am not going to blame Vista..

You wouldn't happen to have Adobe CS4 (or maybe CS3) installed, do you? Wonder if the "AD" stands for Adobe Drive... Too many references to that in my registry...

What I did.
Go to control panel, installed programs etc. double click adobe photoshop 4. Click Adobe Drive CS4 to uninstall it.
I restarted the pc.
After this I went into registry to remove one reference (the only one) to the advirtualdisk which were in the mediaplayer settings (which was were where I had related problems), deleted it.
Now everything works.
I also got the 64bit drivers to work due to this link: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t2270-DNS- … er-1.0.0.-(5-13-2008).html

ROFL, funny both of us found the source of the problem on the same day. i have the CS4 Master Collection installed and around 11AM i elected to uninstall that component of CS4 (apparently it has ties to Version Cue which i always refrain from installing anyhow) and bingo. i would have posted sooner but i backed up my first DNS-323 to my second one last night, formatted it in yet another effort to resolve this (which it didn't) and have been waiting several hours for everything to finish transferring back onto it while building a Phenom X4 9850 system in the meantime.
can't wait to try PS CS4 on a QC CPU. am going from a DC Opteron 165 @ 2.75GHz with 4GB of RAM to a Phenom X4 @ 3.2GHz with 8GB of RAM.
