broken minipci card, replace with atheros or higher spec ralink?

I bought one of these babies off ebay and only after too late did I find out that the wireless card was flakey! Basically, it's very insensitive and doesn't transmit a good signal. I put it in my laptop (whose miniPCI slot works fine with intel 2915abg), and it gave every appearance of working but didn't!

So, I found someone selling a ralink card, this one a RT2561T, cheap enough to take a chance that it would work, tested the card and it was fine (by booting backtrack3 cd, running kismet, and then connecting to wireless access point).

However, the card doesn't work in my DSM-G600 - a site survey finds nothing, and it then disables wifi.

Then I discovered this forum, and installed the fun_plug + busybox/telnetd tarball, logged in and "ifconfig -a" tells me that there's only eth0, no other device. BTW, it'd be nice to have an "iwconfig" binary too.

So, is there any chance someone could provide a madwifi kernel driver for atheros, so that I could get an 802.11a/b/g (or even an N!) which would be really cool!

Or, can someone suggest a source of compatible cards? I've checked the ralink driver forums and the number of combinations is incredible!

thanks very much
Paul
