Crontab: why getdhcp every 10 minutes?

Hi!

/var/log/messages shows me that every 10 minutes a getdhcp entry. What do I need it for every 10 minutes? I think once a day or even once a week should be enough... How can I change this for every 24 hours so that it keeps the setting after reboot?

Thanks for any input.

Re: Crontab: why getdhcp every 10 minutes?

I would guess how often it's necessary to call it would depend on the DHCP lease settings - or if you're going to use a static ip (which is always a good idea for a server) you would not need it at all.

For the sake of discussion - a network which changes (has hosts being added/removed) frequently needs a short DHCP lease period, networks which are essentially static can have longer ones - the lease period is determined by the DHCP server, so the client has to be able to work with a wide range of settings.

The shortest lease period I have seen is 25 minutes.
