Re: New DNS-323 Firmware 1.06b65 (Beta)

i've installed the new firmware yesterday.
so far everything works just fine.
lighttpd, mysql, php, ssh and a few self-made scripts work without any problem.
all data is still available and accessable.
there is just one thing that isn't working, but its more of a gimmick than anything essiential.
The Vista Sidebar Gadget cannot display the client list, uptime and temperature anymore.

Fanspeed control embedded in the new firmware works flawlessly and i've had an issue with hdd spindown (or to be precise accessing the hdd's after a spindown), which is solved too.

Well i thnik that the DNS-323 with this firmware becomes unconfortably hot to my taste...reflashed for the 1.05 again.

Well, the Readme files says: Turn off Fan when the system temperature reached 43 degress Celcius : 43(OFF), 46(LOW), 49(HIGH).

With 1.05 the temperature was always round 37 on my DNS-323. I've installed this beta Firmware and I see that the temprature is rising to 43; however, I didn't check the fan noise yet to be sure it would work as intended (NAS is in a corner of a closet...).

I was very enthusiastic about 1.06 because of its support for XBOX 360. I've enable the UPnP AV server but I don't see DNS-323 on my XBOX 360, neither on my Vista PC! Has anybody else had any success with the AV server in 1.06?

My NAS runs at 38°C while HDD's are spinned down and the FAN is off. With normal reading of the HDD's temperature rises to about 41°C,
with FAN still being off. Of course temperature rises while longer access or more traffic , but then the FAN goes on again and keeps everything
cool enough.

I only have a PS3 and the mediatomb installed in one of the guides here. Everything works as it has before - great.

P.S. to all who use the Vista Sidebar Gadget:
I already contacted the coder and he said that he would check on it as soon as possible. So that should be fixed quite soon, too.
For everyone who hasn't heard of the Gadget, but is curious:

It looks like they beefed up the security on the native command exposure, specifically the following are not apparently available to me even if I log in first:
   /proc/version
   /proc/uptime
   /proc/net/arp

Anyone know how to find that data in 1.06? I dare say I'll find it once my jet lag wears off...

cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.12.6-arm1 (jack@SWTEST2) (gcc version 3.3.3) #30 Mon Aug 18 14:19:14 CST 2008

the remaining 2 also

Um, I'm assuming you're telnetting to the box? I need to get this over http really, where it used to be available at:
http://<IP_ADDRESS>/proc/version
... but not any more I think. Harumph.

Re: New DNS-323 Firmware 1.06b65 (Beta)

As I understand it - that much ballyhooed "security hole" was supposedly a part of the underling code for a "web based" file server feature that was not ready for release in the 1.05 firmware, so the front end was deleted, it has been removed altogether in 1.06 and should be reintroduced in 1.07.
