Twonky's new website

Does anyone know where to download the new version of twonky for the DNS? They used to have a precompiled version but I cannot find it anymore on their new site.

Thank you.

Re: Twonky's new website

Yo can find all downloads here.

http://www.twonkymedia.com/installs.html#

I just tried version 5.0 for linux on my DNS-323 and followed the instructions in the "Li nux-Howto-File" but without success.

After issueing

Code:

/mnt/HD_a2/twonkymediaserver # /mnt/HD_a2/twonkymediaserver/twonkymedia

I just get a stupid

Code:

/mnt/HD_a2/twonkymediaserver/twonkymedia: line 1: syntax error: "(" unexpected

Mmmh. Maybe I am the studip guy here and somebody with more experience knows how to fix this?

Any help / walkthrough description for the DNS-323 is greatly apreciated.

Re: Twonky's new website

I see no link for a v5 linux arm binary on the download page. sad

Rori, I think you are trying to execute the linux i386 binary which is why you receive that error message?

Re: Twonky's new website

Hello,

tank you for the quick response- From the readme file (attached) I can see that the package should both be suitable for

-  Standard PC (x86) AND
-  ARM (Advanced Risc Machine) big and little endian

Is that a misunderstanding? Is it not possible to use the file on the DNS-323?

Re: Twonky's new website

Same problem here with 5.0.  I'm going back to 4.4.3 because playlists kinda worked (didn't work in 4.4.9).  If anyone knows another way to have a media server pull playlists from an itunes library on the DNS-323, please let me know.

Nope. What it says is:

The TwonkyMedia UPnP server for Linux is available for different
machine architectures:

-  Standard PC (x86)
-  ARM (Advanced Risc Machine) big and little endian

You added the "AND" yourself wink It doesn't means that the file you downloaded contains the arm binaries, it's just saying that twonky is available for several platforms, and there should be different packages (one file for x86, one for ARM, one for MIPS,...) available for download. The problem seems that they stopped support for non-x86 architectures (http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5835), though I'm not 100% sure about that.

And yes, the "syntax error: "(" unexpected" error is because it's an i386 binary:

# file twonkymedia
twonkymedia: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.4.3, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

Re: Twonky's new website

I guess that it should be possible for some linux wizkid around here to compile it for the dnds-323? I'll wait for that to happen then. For now I'm happy with 4.4.9

Re: Twonky's new website

If someone had the source code.  They don't release the source -- only the binaries.  So we're out of luck, eh?

Re: Twonky's new website

By the way, it seems that the lastest twonky release (5.0) is somewhat recent and they have different priorities regarding different operating systems and architectures. From what I read on their forum, the Windows version was released in early december, followed by the OSX version several days later, then the Linux x86 afterwards. They might release a version for ARM systems running Linux, but it's not their main priority.

I wouldn't hold your breath.  Run through the following thread to see what twonky-christian has to say...no longer supporting the DNS-323.

You can download latest 4.4.9 version here: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t3490-Twon … nk%3F.html

Thanks jpbadonk, I didn't notice that particular thread sad

I was going to buy a 5.0 key if it was released for our little box. I was even going to buy a 4.x key to use it after the trial limit, but I can't seem to beable to buy a key for 4.x. There are hints in order to use a 5.0 purchased key in 4.x but:

1. You do it at your own risk
2. I'm not going to pay for a 5.0 key when I get twonky 4.4.9 and no support at all. Not fair at all to pay the same money when people get newer releases and proper support
3. I don't like the way they let NAS people down. There are many options (as some people point in the thread) like selling 4.x keys cheaper (to be able to use twonky 4.x after the trial limit) or release 5.0 for the NAS systems and warn people that there's no support on those NAS versions. However, I don't know if I would spend 30€ on a product without support (if it doesn't work, you're on your own), specially when the rest of the world is getting support for the same price.

Oh well... Time to check if trial limit can be reset to 30 days without too much trouble... May a reinstallation will do? If so, wouldn't it be possible to reset the trial period without reinstalling? hmm

A reboot will be sufficient to solve your issue

Hey thanks smile

If you don't want to restart the NAS, this will also work:

Code:

# touch /bin/.tv

wink

How can I automate that code?

It's really too bad because like the other guy I was going to purchase 4.x key. Not anymore.

Are there any other options for us DNS-323 users?

Re: Twonky's new website

touching works too in .11, just restart server afterward and make sure that 30 days period hasn't already passed (there are no red letters on twonky configuration page)

i added this simple script in cron job every 25 days in 5am smile

#!/bin/sh
touch /bin/.tv
/ffp/start/twonky.sh restart

Re: Twonky's new website

any chance of a noddy guide for this smile

i have funplug installed.
running twonky 4.4.11. maybe different with this version?
my /bin/.tv file only contains info for the dlink upnp.
i have no ffp folder

also i have no twonky.sh file (find / -name twonky.sh)
and doing ./twonkymediaserver restart or twonkymedia restart or stops
doesn't seem to do any thing,

I'm sure it's something easy but just can't seem to get it working smile

Re: Twonky's new website

Thanks SilentException, I'm trying it right now. The media feeds don't seem to work for me (blank page) and I can't find where to set up the login/password access to the Twonky web interface.

I also found another problem... ¿Why is twonkymedia storing all of its settings and library data in /home/root/.TwonkyMediaServer? It just fills all the available space of the root filesystem and the box goes mad (smbd died on a 'no space left' while trying to write to /tmp) hmm

I've fixed it by moving /home/root/.TwonkyMediaServer to /mnt/HD_a2/twonky and doing a symbolic link, but I guess the link will be dead and gone upon ecery box restart hmm

Re: Twonky's new website

don't know about the first problem (blank page)

you could try to set login/password in twonky-config file (that is if there is one)
in v4 there was twonkyvision-mediaserver.ini, in section [main], accessuser=xxx, accesspwd=::HEX - i guess pwd is DES encrypted)

regarding third problem you could use fun_plug to set the sym link upon every boot.. so that's not a biggie smile
