Downloading with uTorrent to a DNS-323, recent performance change

Hi all

I have a 10/100 home network with a few pc's on Windows XP and a DNS-323 (v1.05) connected via a Netgear DG-834G router. I use one PC to run uTorrent, downloading directly to the DNS-323, and this has worked well for the last 11 months with several simultaneous downloads via ADSL2+.

However several days ago I applied Service Pack 3 to the PC, and upgraded the router firmware, and now I keep getting torrent errors that require the torrent to be rechecked. Usually the checking fails with an error:  the i/o operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. The NAS network activity light initially flashes quite fast with the disc light flashing slowly, but after a while activity seems to stop, unless I begin browsing through Windows Explorer. Browsing the NAS through windows explorer also seems to be slower.

I have reset configiguration to factory defaults, rebooted but no improvement. Also tried disabling power management on the DNS-323.
I also tried running uTorrent on a (different) XP SP2 PC (downloading to the NAS), but got the same results.

I have now tried doing a copy from one of the NAS disks to a USB attached disk, but that failed after about 20-30 minutes with a message that "the specified network name is no longer available"
EDIT: A second attempt produced the error: the i/o operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request

Does anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong, or where to do further diagnosis?

All fixed, got an answer on another forum

It turned out to be the wireless USB dongle on the PC, looking at the stats showed lots of errors.
All good after I plugged in a network cable, torrents resumed without even needing re-checking smile
