Re: 1.06 is available now

So the question is: can I just remove my hard drives, upgrade, then stick them back in?  Or do I need to backup everything, upgrade, reformat the drives then push everything back onto the drives?

edit: I decided to go for it.  Did the first option.  Upgrade went fine with no data loss.

Just download the file and update the firmware, that's all I've just done...

if you take out the drives the chances of you are lousing data is bigger..

let the drives be in and upgrade the firmware if you like to beta test else wait a week or so and then upgrade.

First user to fun_plug the dns-323.

v1.06 final seems to be exactly the same as beta v1.06 b65 from station drivers. No issues with upgrade.

Yes. No issues on the upgrade. Left the drives in. All's well. Drives previously formatted with 1.05.

Shoot. I didn't find any must-have feature for me in 1.06. I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yes it is after two month a bluff by D-Link USA and specialy the D-Link USA forum. It is the same version then the 1.06b65!

Look at the date on the DNS-323 firmware site.

Re: 1.06 is available now

Just updated straight. No issues so far.

Dumb question. If I have a UPS, do I just plug it in? I assume that it will auto shutdown the box if I the power fails?

Upgraded fine for me - seems ok but I can't seem to find anywhere to configure the fan settings. Anyone give me a clue where to find this?

AAAARGH!!! My PS3 still doesn't recognize the NAS!!
I have just updated the firmware to the 1.06 (is this the same of the 1.06b65??) but nothing changed I got always the DLNA 2114 error :-(
The ps3 has latest firmware 2.53 on board and is configured in WIFI mode.
Does any other got the same problem?? How to fix it? The dlink docs says it should be fixed now.......

Re: 1.06 is available now

I have had the same DLNA error with my PS3.  But I got it working....make sure you go into the UPNaV settings on the DNS-323 and execute a refresh.  Also, what I have is the checkbox for just sharing off the root..and not some sub folder.  After the refresh completes...wait a few minutes and your PS3 should be able to see the DNS-323 just fine.

I use a linksys WRT610N and I have my PS3 and my Dlink hardwired to it.  Hopes this helps.

EDIT: Also.. I find it helps if you leave your PS3 turned on during the refresh...it seems if you power cycle the PS3 it doesn't pick up the DNS-323 right away and you may have to wait 5-10 minutes for your files to start showing up.

Connect the USB cable to the DNS-323 and the USB, connect the power and switch the DNS-323 on, log in to the admin page and go to the status page, if the unit has detected the UPS it will show the details on the status page (where the printer details normally are) - it should give you the type of UPS and it's status (online)

Now pull the UPS plug from the outlet - after a minute or two the status should be updated to show that the UPS is on battery - if you leave it to run to battery depletion, when the UPS sends the low battery alarm, the DNS-323 should shut down, before the UPS drops dead.

Not the best way to do it in my opinion, but that's how it works.

Re: 1.06 is available now

Couple of questions with this....

1. Am running Fonz's funplug (0.5), will I have to re-install this and redo my changes after upgrading to 1.06?
2. I am also running the Fan Script, will I have to delete this prior to using the incorporated 1.06 one?

Thx

Re: 1.06 is available now

Is anyone who's upgraded had problems with their unit going in to powersave mode?

I have ffp 0.5 running from the hard drive with mediatomb and transmission - while on 1.05 the disks would spin down and the big blue light go out ok but since the upgrade it doesn't seem to want to.

Tried all the thing's I can think of, inbuilt uPnP and itunes are disabled, have cleared any spooled print jobs so can't see why it should stay "awake".

Re: 1.06 is available now

I'm from Australia, and Firmware v1.06 is out on the dlink US and AU sites. However at the time I downloaded them, they were slightly different.

The US one unpacked to dns323_firmware_106 @7,893,846 bytes US link
The AU one unpacked to DNS323_Firmware_106b62 @7,864,710 bytes (AU - REV B link)
On the AU site, v1.06 is currently only listed for REV B of the DNS-323. For Rev A, the latest firmware is still v1.05 (AU - REV A link.  The US site doesn't have different downloads for Rev A / Rev B of the device.

The release notes from the version on the US site: dns323_firmware_106 @7,893,846 bytes are in mastervol's post above.

From the AU site Release notes of: DNS323_Firmware_106b62 @7,864,710 bytes (at the time of writing)

**WARNING** Read Before Upgrading Firmware.

New firmware for the DNS-323 often affects the way hard drives are formatted and the way files are handled.
To avoid potential complications and loss of files, please back up all files to another location before upgrading firmware.
After the upgrade, re-format your hard drives if upgrading from Shipping firmware 1.00 or 1.01 and if hard drives are formatted in EXT3.
Once the hard drives have been re-formatted, it will be safe to move your files back onto the DNS-323.
