Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Yes you can make your NAS into a webserver and spin down your Fan when it reaches a certain temp. But what are some other goodies software or plugins you get from installing Fun_PLug?
I updated my firmware to 1.06 and it spins down the fan when the hard drives are idle and cool. I just use the NAS storage device just to hold my files over my home network. But do you recommend me installing the fun_plug for some other features I don't know about?

When you are content with the stock firmware, and want nothing more, or in a different way, there is no reason to install fun_plug.

I have what I describe as a "minimal" fun_plug - it adds telnet access to the device and I may at some point also add USB storage

I primarily use ffp for the development environment. With this, I can compile applications for the DNS-323 using my DNS-323. My custom build of MediaTomb 0.12 is what is used most often.

I use it for SFTP

I use it for twonky (to serve my media players music and videos without problems) and webserver for web dev sites

I use it for tunneling my internet access from unsafe public hotspots via my home account.

I set it up to get ssh access to the device... I then setup nfs to be able to nfs mount the device via my Linux machine. Easier/faster to use rsync cron jobs to do backups to the 323, rather than straight copies.

what about bit torrent? You can setup fun_plug to do bit torrent? What exactly does it do? does it act like a seeding or can I setup download and it will download directly to my NAS storage

I use it to download from newsservers, automatic par checking, repair and unrar. Simply put a .nzb-file in folder 'x', after a while look in folder 'y' for the results.
I use it to automatically backup my files every night from 1 disk to the other, so I always have a recent copy of my data in case the master disk fails.
And I also use it to stream mp3, ogg and flac files to my audio system.

I use funplug on my CH3SNAS for several purposes:
1. turn off my custom build fan when the disks are idle
2. run a newer version of samba which I configured manually to be a better file server
3. backup disk 1 to disk 2 automatically for data safety
4. ssh and sftp access to the unit
