Hi all,
I recently upgraded to the CLP-315 colour laser printer. I used to have an ML-1710 mono laser which I was able to use quite happily via the USB port on the back on the DNS-323.
First thing I did was just swap the printers over but when I installed the software/drivers, the PC said it couldn't find the printer on the USB port. Right, I thought, connect the PC directly to the printer and makes sure it all works that way ... no problems at all, everythings fine and the "smart panel" software on the PC works fine.
Knowing the printer was fine, I then tried connecting the printer to the DNS-323 again. Without restarting, the 323 recognised the change in printer and got the right manufacturer and product. However, the "smart panel" software on the PC stopped working and when I tried the print a test page on the untouched "network printer" (under "Printers and Faxes") a page is printed which just says "use the correct driver"
I have read similar problems with USB printers on here before and a solution often mentioned is to assign a TCP/IP port to the printer. What does this do ? Do I maybe need to delete the 'old' network printer and make new one ?
Anyone got any ideas ? Or am I now restricted to only using the new printer via a direct PC -> Printer USB connection ?
UPDATE: Ok, by deleting the network printer and adding a new one (when I was asked to find the Samsung drivers) I can now print via the DNS-323 However, adding a "port" to the printer doesn't help make the "Smart Panel" software work.
TIA for any help.
Regards,
Adam Brunt

I doubt that you'll get the "smart panel" software to work - I believe this print server is unidirectional - PC-->//DNS-323//lp so there is no return path for the requires status information.
This is not unusual with third party print servers, and in fact I know of only one that provides this "back channel" and even then only under specific circumstances.

Thanks for that fordem.
Makes sense I suppose and at least I now have the printer working via the DNS-323
