How do I enable SSL for FTP?

I have the box fun_plug-ed and I want to enable FTP transfers with SSL.  But when I try an SSL connection it gives me an error 500 and says that this hasn't been implemented.  I am using pure-ftpd, but the -Y option doesn't seem to have any affect.

Thanks in advance,
bozob

Re: How do I enable SSL for FTP?

the build in ftp is somehow limited and fucked up ..
use pure-ftp from optware or fonz repository
another one which is good is vsftp (fons or optware)

Re: How do I enable SSL for FTP?

I can whole heartedly recommend vsftpd from funplug. It's in the extra-packages/net. hectorg recently made a pretty nice page on the wiki about how to set it up.

or if you use chrooted debian with SSH you could use SFTP.

Re: How do I enable SSL for FTP?

Actually I found that I can simply use SFTP over SSH using fonz's excellent FFP 0.5.

Thanks for the suggestions.
