Connectivity

Hi,

Here is my setup:

DNS-323 (running samba)
*
*
Router
*
*
iMac

Whenever I transfer files to the DNS-323 my connection peaks out at 8.5MB/s.
My iMac, Router and DNS are all capable of going to at least 100MB/s.  The * * represent an ethernet connection rather than a wireless one.

Do you guys think that this is a setting issue in Samba or am I missing something here???

Thanks.
Fezz

Re: Connectivity

You don't specify gigabit ethernet, so I have to ask this - are you confusing 100MB/s (megabytes/sec) with 100mbps (megabits/sec)?

Unless gigabit (1000mbps) is specifed, ethernet would either be a 10mbps connection which is quite rare nowadays, or 100mbps - theoretical maximum thoughput on 100mbps is 12.5MB/s, 8.5MB/sec is a little slow, but I believe fairly close to what I saw in my early testing with the DNS-323 on a 100mbps network.

Hi Fordem,

Indeed, my post may have been confusing - sorry.  I'm on a 100mbps network and I'm yielding 8.25-8.5 MB/s via samba.  Any thoughts on how I can improve the performance here?

Interestingly enough with an AFP connection (on the same network), I'm yielding around 10-11MB/s.  Nevertheless, my concern is in improving the Samba connectivity which always plateaus at 8.5MB/s.

Thanks!
Fezz
